In the wiretap... Nets want KCP and I think they'll be coming in with a Max offer... Discuss.

As expected. Philadelphia will probably be right there too. If the Pistons want to keep Caldwell-Pope they're probably going to come to an agreement before he signs an offer sheet with another team. That way the structure of the contract doesn't hurt as much.
For me, if it comes down to keeping Caldwell-Pope and trading Jackson for pennies on the dollar or letting Kentavious leave and keeping Jackson with Johnson starting at the two I'm hoping for the former 100% of the time. It's not close. If the team doubles-down on building around Jackson and Drummond it's going to be a very rough stretch going forward.

KCP is the only 2 way player we have on this team, he always plays hard and with effort, he got better every year! Other teams clearly can see his value, pay him and and watch him blossom without Reggie next year.

Good for KCP. I actually think he deserves, if not max, close to max money. If SVG declines to match, I have little doubt KCP will be the #1 option in Brooklyn and start averaging 20ppg, 3rpg, and 3.5apg.

“On a given night he can get 35 on you easily. His speed off the ball, coming off those [dribble handoffs], flying off and somehow [you’re] going to have to find a way to stay attached, stay close to him.”
I love KCP but what LOL? He has literally scored over 35 once in his entire career, but he can get 35 easily any given night? He's shooting 41% FG on the season.
They are giving him way too much credit on the offensive end.
He can also "easily" give you only 4 points any given night.

Well it does say
a given night, not
any given night
Maybe they think if he wasn't playing with RJ it'd be much more frequent

This can't be a surprise and I'd have to think the franchise was expecting this. I do believe Reggie and Baynes are going to be gone, the real fear at this point is Reggie being unmovable due to his health, attitude and contract.
Best case IMO is getting something at least slightly positive to get Reggie off the roster and being able to move up to get one of Dennis Smith or De'aaron Fox in the draft to pair with Ish at pg. Even if we can't land one of them, there may be someone who represents more upside than Reggie that comes available at a reasonable price. PG is one of the deepest positions in the league right now, it works against us being able to move Reggie but it helps with being able to find a reasonable replacement.

Fun fact, KCP has a nearly identical FG% to Ricky Rubio this season (KCP 41.0% and Rubio 40.8%). When the Jackson for Rubio rumors came out there was an argument that Rubio wasn't worth his contract since he "can't shoot", so now the Pistons are going to pay KCP the max?

If we don't keep KCP but keep the rest of the team, I'm gonna have to find a second team to watch nightly. Pistons minus KCP = some ugly basketball.

The Difference: KCP shoots 37.1% from 3, Rubio shoots 31.3% from 3. For comparison, Reggie shoots 36.5% from 3. Considering those two are our only solid three point shooters on a very poor shooting team, Rubio couldn't be our guy.

IMO KCP is not a max player, but I like him.
If others teams offer the max, I'd be ok with matching. However, the team should be restructured if this happens. RJ should be moved in the offseason, and KCP should have a bigger role as the leader of this team. I also wouldn't be opposed to moving Drummond, if the price is right.
I think KCP on a max contract isn't a bad move, since a handful of teams could always use a guy like him. I wonder if the love people have for KCP currently will be the same though if he's making $20m+ a season and never develops into a star.

I'd be cool with 17-18 ppg on good efficiency, but people will always bitch, always. If he get's the 20 mill and stay where he is atm, that will be disappointing

One thing that is pretty clear is that paying Caldwell-Pope and keeping Jackson makes no sense at all. Kentavious is marginalized way too much with Reggie. If the plan is to keep the latter there's going to be a lot of inconsistent stretches for Caldwell-Pope as we've seen thus far. It's not like Jackson is going to change as a player at this point.
