I have been on record saying that Reggie Jackson isn't a starting caliber PG since about the 4th game after he came here, and always thought he was a good 6th/7th combo off the bench. With that being said, we unfortunately tried to make to make it work. After two long years he finally is back on the bench where he's supposed to be. As disappointing as it is that SVG and any Pistons fan believed in the empty stats he put up and thought he was starting caliber, we HAVE to keep him.

1. We're stuck with him and nobody else will give us value for him

2. He can truly excel in that role if he embraces it... and changes his jersey # (tired of Chauncey being disrespected)

3. Reggie can play off the ball because his standstill and/or deep 3 is very solid as I've always said

4. In limited minutes because his stamina is so bad... he can play better defense

5. We have no other choice but to eat his contract on the bench... Iggy did it and was a Finals MVP

I know I've always ragged on Reggie Jackson on here but that was always because we were trying to put him in a role he's not good enough for and he really had people fooled. Going into next season we have to make some changes but I think we may have to go a different route and keep Reggie. I know we won't get good value for him. Maybe trade Drummond? I haven't gotten into moves for next season heavy yet but I do know that if Reggie can embrace a super 6th man combo guard role on 23-29 mins he can be a 6th man of the year candidate and worth that money. This year has been disappointing enough that I think/hope SVG can leverage it and we don't just lose another asset.



EDIT: Also, that man is NOT injured he has always been great for the bench and nothing more. I REFUSE to accept "well Reggie was hurt this year" as another excuse to give him a starting PG job next year. I might retire as a Pistons fan smh 2 years of watching Reggie plus the years of watching Stuckey before him is really wearing on me

He isn't and shouldn't be a part of this team moving forward.

Trade him

Starting or super 6th Man he needs to go because of the game he chooses to play.

Does he know his role? Since going to the bench, he's been averaging a +\- of -15 in 19 minutes. You say he can excel in the role if he truly embraces it. The guy didn't want to be a backup to Russell Westbrook he sure doesn't want to be one to Ish Smith.

Ish is our backup, Reggie can be the 4th or 5th guard if we can't trade him at all.

we can trade him SVG is just asking for way to much

I believe the asking price was:

Large expiring
Young prospect or pick

OR a better player (Rubio)

1 - ain't no way you're getting a better player!

2 - a lot of teams really value cap space

3 - a prospect on his own doesn't balance salary

He's finishing the season on the bench of a team that is imploding it's way to the lottery. What value does he have now? Seriously. How do other franchises view this guy? They're probably thrilled that he's our mess and not theirs! As things stand currently I think we'd have to attach incentive to move him, like we did with Ben Gordon.

If there's any reasonable way to part with RJ, I'm all for it. It isn't about his skill set. The problem is his mind set. When you hear Isiah talk about what he learned being the PG on a championship team, and stress the need of the PG to adjust and sacrifice their own game to the team's needs, it just seems inevitable. RJ doesn't seem capable of taking this tact. You have to wonder if this is even possible, sadly.

RJ for Biyombo? Gives us a decent defensive presence behind Dre and pairs well with Bobans offense.

actually, not a bad idea. but ish smith can not be our starting pg.

That would also be locking in $47 million at the center position for the next two seasons. As much as I would like to see Jackson dumped I don't think that's the way to do it.

Trust me, I thought about that. The post was basically just my way of saying we're going to be swapping bad contracts this summer, might as well get some use out of the one we bring in. Would Chandler Parsons be a better fit? Lol

I'm thinking Nurkic and Crabbe for Dre if we're not bottoming out and looking to do lateral moves. Then trade RJ for whatever the hell anyone wants at this point since he has no value likely.

Nurk has been balling and Crabbe is a good role player.

I can't believe the poll results. There isn't a better role for Reggie available than on our bench, and we can't just lose value and trade him for pennies. The irony of me being anti-Reggie as a PG for the last 2 years and now seemingly being the only person who voted to keep him is crazy lol... He might never start at PG again. The only way for the Reggie experiment to not be a complete loss is for him to excel in a bench role for the duration of his contract. We can deal with the rest of the roster separately.

I wouldn't trade anything of value for Reggie. I'd probably only pick him up as a FA

This is a loss for us that I can't get with. Somebody up top with SVG has to be able to put Reggie Jackson in his place and get him to embrace one of the only prominent roles he's good enough for in this league. He's being paid enough GUARANTEED MONEY to put his ego away
