Would be awesome to see and a nice reward for moving downtown to a new arena (a top 3 pick would be nice too wink wink)
Tellem told the Free Press that he and owner Tom Gores made a presentation at the NBA’s Board of Governors meeting last week in New York, giving the league’s owners an update on the move. And Tellem and Gores gave them a reason to come and witness the development happening downtown.
“The NBA is very supportive and really excited that we’re making this move,” Tellem said. “We told them we’re moving into the best new arena in North America and we’re hoping, down the road, to bring an All-Star Game to Detroit and welcome all the owners and show them all the wonderful things happening in Detroit.”

I remember all the complaining about the Super Bowl being in Detroit like a decade ago I can't see the NBA going to a city like Detroit even with a new Arena.

I hope this happens, definitely. We had the superbowl here in 2006 at Ford Field (which opened 2002), MLB all star game in 2005 at Comerica (which opened 2000), and not much since.
Last time the Pistons hosted was in 1979 at the Silverdome!!!
We're long overdue as a city and a franchise and the NBA should have us at the top of the list even without the move to Detroit and a new arena.

Final Four in 2009.
From what I remember, all of those recent events have gone really smoothly. I see no reason why Detroit wouldnt be able to host the All Start game, and I don't think people would be complaining about it.

There you go. I knew I was forgetting something; I checked all the pro sports but didn't think to check college. I thought of the Big Chill at the Big House in 2010 but that's kind of tangential and then my train of thought died.
There are 13 markets that have all four professional sports teams. We're certainly not the biggest market, but our college sports scene helps boost us with Michigan right around the corner and MSU still a large presence. The next closest PRO city is Chicago.

I could see it. NBA is a little more socially conscious with their decisions and Detroit is a good story in the making.

They should do it in Detroit. I'm tired of the South getting all the love especially since NOLA got it twice in the same decade. Although that was with extenuating circumstances.
I think the next one is in LA? Meh, it's a great city, but I want some diversity and love for these smaller markets.

Yeah how dare they waste time going to a meeting to give an update on the move to a new arena (which the BoG still has to formally approve)
