we need a scorer/shooter. espn says he is "capable of defending either forward position".
should we go after him?

Can't. The Pistons won't have enough cap space even if the rights to all the unrestricted and restricted free agents are renounced. Which isn't happening anyways, but it will wouldn't be enough.

Gallinari is okay. Pretty solid offensive player. He's not defending anybody though. Saying he can defend either forward position doesn't mean he can actually defend. Just that he can be a body put against either of those two positions.

he can't defend because he is white?
espn: "At 6-foot-10, Gallinari is big enough to log regular minutes at power forward but also quick enough to defend on the wing. He likes to try to beat opponents to the spot to draw contact and rarely gets beaten off the dribble. Given Michael Malone's deep rotation this season, Gallinari's defensive versatility could come in handy."

Uh... where did I even come close to saying that? He can't defend because he can't defend. I don't care what ESPN says. Watching basketball is more useful.

LOL...Gallinari's defense isn't even average on his best day.

OP doesn't watch games so forgive him. Living outside the USA makes it difficult.

Gallo is not even close to being a good defender.

Declining his option = longer money. He'll want over $20+ mil per.

If I'm Brooklyn I'd go after him.

He literally didn't say anything of the sort. How did you extract that?!

Gallo was a good and smart defender at first. After all the injuries he lost athleticism.

No thanks.

I wouldn't be too worried about him against most 4's if you have help at the 5 but we have rummond.

Obviously we don't have cap space but if the Nuggz would take Harris and Boban or Leuer in a S&T I'd be on board.

Gallo is ridiculously smart on court. I've always liked him. He used to be a very good defender. He's not worth the commitment anymore though. Injuries have changed him.

Going from Harris to Gallinari isn't a significant upgrade though. Better shooting, but that's about it and also 4 years older for a team that shouldn't be investing in older veterans that aren't going to change much for the team. Especially when it takes trading the best player Detroit has.

Gallinari draws fouls and hits 90% from the line, plus his shooting and he's just a smarter player. I know you like Harris but this would be a significant upgrade, one that would make our other guys better too.

I think you're vastly overestimating Gallinari and how much he would help Detroit. Danilo is a solid offensive player, but nothing more. Pretty much the same as Harris. Like I said before he brings better shooting to the table but he's not turning anything around for the Pistons. And being 4 years older while getting an immediate new deal is kind of a big deal.

I would rather have a 24yo Harris at $16 mil per than a 28yo Gallinari at $20 mil plus who hasn't played more than 63 games in either of the last 3 seasons and is at his peak. Harris still has room to grow. It really is a no brainer.
