I'm ok with the pick I like he's a lefty and can handle the ball some.

EEEEEEEEEEEEE-Troit Basketball.

No D.

Already struggled athletically at the NCAA level - will be 13th man shooter in the NBA.

Great "old man" game for the local YMCA team.

I will not hate on this pick until he plays, heres hoping he becomes of the nba's best shooters. Luke and Henry the new splash bros you heard it here first.

I think he's slightly more athletic then he gets credit for, considering he posted a 38.5 inch vertical iirc.

He gots great footwork, high iq and lights out shooting, so he should at least have a role in some form. He also has an immediate spot in the rotation unlike Ellenson

I'm rooting for him, and hoping he can add some much needed shooting for this team. Unfortunately I'm worried he won't develop well or get consistent minutes under SVG. We could use a shooter, so hopefully he pans out.

He should get minutes as we really needed a backup sg last season really badly.

Was just thinking the same thing...I'd imagine Bullock is gone with the Kennard pick and his suspension.

A Belinelli type that will save the franchise some money.

We'll see but Belinelli would be really good if he wasn't such a bone head.

Like I said in the draft thread, I'm fine with Kennard. He or Mitchell would have been good. Different prospects for sure, but on the same level. Donovan gets pumpe as having combo guard potential but the same goes for Luke and he has superior BBIQ. I like his chances of succeeding in that role.

Lots and lots of offensive skill besides the combo potential too. Not just shooting. Read the DraftExpress articles on him, they cover it better than any of us could. He brings a lot of what Detroit is missing on a whole. Luke isn't not going to solve those problems everywhere, but it's a start. Just have to get him on the floor for more than spot minutes behind Caldwell-Pope. And if he can handle/facilitate in the NBA, there's the opportunity.

Defense is obviously a concern. Van Gundy is too confident his his defensive scheming and thinks he can make questionable individual defenders into good team defenders and have a good defense. That's false, but I don't mind it too much. You pretty much have to start with building a good offense first these days. Good defense/barely competent offense teams aren't going anywhere.

I don't necessarily see this as the "safe" play either. For that there needed to have been a star upside player on the board, and there wasn't. Mitchell isn't that guy. Giles isn't that guy. Anunoby isn't that guy. Athleticism =/= massive upside. Especially these days, offensive skill rules all. Not that Luke has star potential, just not seeing it with everybody else left either. Kennard can obviously bust and I'm worried about him turning out to be Nik Stauskas, but he's his own person with his own outcome yet to be determined.

Also, the shades of last year with Henry Ellenson aren't really coming into play. Luke actually has BBIQ and skills with production/efficiency to go with his selling points. The BBIQ thing is especially important here. He's got a much better chance of seeing the floor immediately, and not just because of the easier path to playing time in the backcourt.

Best comp I could come up with was Reddick... Did we draft this kid to be a starter? If he's supposed to be a 12 mpg backup this is an epic fail... If that's the case sign Bullock.
Keep waiting to hear the Piston have traded the #12. SMH
