Would you trade Dre + Reggie for almost nothing???
Here's the trade proposal.
Andre + Reggie to New Jersey for a future 2nd round pick.
Why for Detroit?[/]
Stan tried to trade Reggie last year and could not find anyone to bite(3 years $51 million on his contract). His ability to be a solid starting PG in the NBA is still very much in question and if he doesn't start the season out playing well it could absolutely kill any chance of trading him and his contract. Dre has been lacking motivation on a nightly basis but still is a freakish athlete with potential. But he's getting paid MAX money (4 more years $105+ million) and Detroit is already up against the luxury tax wall all while being a team that missed the playoffs a year ago. This trade would clear the way for Detroit to be able to add some other new pieces to the puzzle that might fit better with what's already here.
[b]Why for New Jersey?
They are without their pick once again next year, but at the same time they are a team that is wanting to develop young players instead of adding older vets. They take a flyer on a player who might be better than anyone who would be willing to sign via FA in Brooklyn in Dre, and certainly a player who has the most upside. To do this they also have to take on Reggie's contract.

At this point yes but that's not really nothing for another team as almost 50 mil in cap space is a lot for someone to take on so I expect the return wouldn't be a whole lot more than a 2nd at the moment.
But I'm also a build through the draft type of guy especially here and that trade is a fresh start.

Yes, I'd do that deal. Offload $40 million in cap space. SVG would never do that deal. It's the 8th seed or bust for him.

Why are we clearing them off the books?
I'd need to know:
who we're bringing in with the cap space
what deals we'd give them
How that impacts the rotation
How that impacts the future

I would only do it if we were going nuclear. Not resigning KCP, trading Harris and Morris for future/young assets, and sporting a league worst lineup of Ish, Kennard, Stanley, Ellenson, and Boban. If we're dismantling, then do it all the way.
I think the best option is to play the season out with what we've got, though. Get the 6th or 7th seed and teams will view our assets in a better light if we are disposed to trading for higher level talent.

Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

The assets of any Eastern team that squeezes into the playoffs and gets waxed won't be viewed in a positive light.
Our hope should be that we make the playoffs and then win games

Yes lets trade Dre and Reggie for cap space. The pistons have such a great record of attracting top free agents

Re: Would you trade Dre + Reggie for almost nothing???
Admittedly, I have been one of the biggest critics of Drummond from the time David Stern announced his name, even prior to that when I watched a very lethargic player at UConn.
I was opining my wishes for the Pistons to trade him, all the way up until the 2016 Trade Deadline. It was inevitable that SVG was going to pay him handsomely after that.
Now, I am at a point where Andre is no longer heading the list of nuisances. The main dude(s) for me are Jackson(1A) & Morris(1B). They must be the first players sent packing to improve the roster.
Some folks labeled me a hater regarding Drummond. Granted my persistent naysaying was quite controversial for those who admired him. BUT, I have a lot more resentment for a player like Reggie.
With Drummond, I mainly wanted to trade him while he could still net a return of equal caliber... and not necessarily a Center.
However, Reggie is a bur in the proverbial saddle. OKC fans were right about him. And although I had eyed him as a good back-up, I had no idea the level of narcissist that he was.
The issue is, Jackson no longer has much value. As far as anyone can tell, he might just have a knee that is irreparable and on a quick decline. I doubt many GMs/Coaches want a busted up, arrogant and juvenile player to contaminate the rest of their locker room.
Which leads to Morris. I won't say too much since he's not part of the topic, but I am not a fan. I would not want this guy to be the leader of my team.
He's possibly just as selfish as Reggie, and IMHO, was the catalyst as to why there was a team meeting back in Dec.
This is the dude Van Gundy was speaking of when he stated that a player stopped playing defense with any fortitude, because he wasn't getting the ball. He had 1 rebound in that Pacer game if I'm not mistaken(meeting followed).
Hopefully, I haven't offended any Morris fans out there. Just my opinion and it's not an important one.
On the thread topic - - - I would not make that deal. I want to see how Drummond responds if the Pistons were to get rid of enablers and accomplices to his moments of sulking. I'd do it for Jackson & Morris. My best effort to answer an hypothetical question.

You gotta bottom out to get to the top, Detroit doesn't seem to understand that. So yeah I would and I would throw out a Hinkie style lineup for two years and go that route. Two years from now you could have a couple young studs and then start going for it but this way won't get you very far unless Drummond really steps it up.

The problem is it sounds like Gores would nix most trades with Drummond in them because they're friends.

Re: Would you trade Dre + Reggie for almost nothing???
There IS a massive difference between what many of us want to see and what Gores has demanded.
I'm over here with my completely different offense, no RJ, no Kennard (got Mitchell instead) & I'm focusing on the defensive end of the floor cause you can't outgun the Warriors.
Someone else is over there selling off our high dollar contracts for picks or super short contracts in order to tank
And then someone else is somewhere else looking to be the Warriors lite and accumulating offensive weapons
ALL are far more interesting than our current situation!
But what's a fan to do? Quit? You're already suffering - might as well stick around and eventually be rewarded for your fandom!
The people that were fans during the Teal Era were rewarded with the Going to Work team...I'm hopeful that the people that are fans now will be rewarded in a similar way eventually

I would not make that trade. Once they miss out on Porter, I would offer Mook + Reggie and/or Leuer.

If we got rid of SVG/Bowers I would be all for it. Otherwise, our FO would just use that $$ to overpay some other marginal FA.

There is no reason to think that we could only get a 2nd rounder for Dre... Some of y'all are seriously undervaluing his trade value... As for RJ he was a good/clutch player when healthy... It's worth waiting until the next deadline to see if he can uptick his value.

Sad thing is, I'm pretty sure we'd still get in the playoffs without them.

i was sure frustrated at times last season and would've wanted to get rid of reggie for nothing but i definitely think reggie's upside (him returning to full health) is worth way more than the cap space.

We would basically be offloading 40 million for 15 million of cap space. Can't do that.
Maybe a better question is: trade the two of them for a $40 million trade exception? That would be fun.
Now would be the time to do it - I can see the calls coming.... "Hey Stan, we're trying to sign a better player - how about taking Greg Monroe and a first from us? How about Kyle Singler and two seconds? Deng and two firsts? Half of the Blazers roster for three firsts?"
