Tony Allen never had much for offense, but helped bolster that team defensively to make multiple ECF's. We don't need 5 scorers on this team as long as we have 3-4 scorers on the court most of the time including bench players.

You are absolutely correct and as Pistons fans we know this all to well.BadMofoPimp wrote:Tony Allen never had much for offense, but helped bolster that team defensively to make multiple ECF's. Difference here is that if Johnson can contribute on offense this team can be dominant pending a move or two and continued growth.
There is no reason Johnson can't average around double figures on this team. 9-13ppg would make the starting 5 not just defensively fantastic but truly threatening on offense.
I saw the Pistons winning 50+games last year before injuries.
This current team is absolutely better then that team, and its deeper as well.
I have seen posts all over RealGM downplaying the Pistons and their talent and it baffles me to no end. One all NBA player(Andre)all defensive 1rst team(Bradley)best closer in the game 2 years ago(Reggie)and a player truly coming into his own before our very eyes(Harris). Johnson is so far ahead of schedule defensively its scary, and when you add in this teams talented and diverse bench you have something that could be very special.
20 games. Lets see where this team stands at 20 games. Its early but this team thru 7 games has shown something I havnt seen since 07-08 and that's real talent and determination. They are NOT giving up in games when they get down. 27 point swing against the Warriors. Come backs from huge deficits against Washington, New York, and L.A. Bad or lucky teams don't do that. Talented and tough teams do that going thru growing pains.
This team(BARRING INJURIES) is going to be damn good this year.
DAMM GOOD. I believe it all comes down to Johnson's play. When him amd Bradley are hounding defensively, this team is tough as nails.
Johnson averages 10ppg and this team wins 50+games.

I think we are under estimating Stanley. In a short time Stanley projects to be as good an offensive and defensive player at SF as Bradley is at SG. imo.

I agree fully. Still have pretty high hopes for the young guy. A little less than I had before tho. I still think he can and will be a huge contributor on both ends when all said and done

I'm still optimistic as well. He has it figured out on the defensive side. As much as it shouldn't be the case I think his most difficult part of the transition to the NBA was not being the best player on his team.

For everyone that says he should be Tony Allen don't actually remember Tony Allen career. Tony Allen worked himself into being a decent shooter. When he first came in he wasn't taking mid range shots nor 3 pointers. Right now he is prime Tony Allen defense(which was his younger days) and prime Tony Allen offense ( which was latter I'm his career. Stanley Johnson is still going to be something special.

I hope you are right. I was at the game last night and Stanley was out early working on his threes and it was nice to see him hit a few.

Personally as someone who stuck by SJ through his first 2 years and defended him at every opportunity on here I couldn't be happier for him.
Dude has forced SVG to take the choker chain off him (passed it to Luke Kennard unfortunately) & is logging insane minutes.
SJ is still 21 right? Still got a long way to go but it's great to see him repay the faith

I haven't seen this Johnson shot before. His shot changed 100%. He's a lot more fluid and has a rhythm to his release. I think his shot is here to stay, it's looking great. All the rest is confidence and he's got that before he came into the league. His defense suggests he's here to stay in the league. Stanley could be better than Jae Crowder. Just take a look at how they release the ball, completely different. Stanley changed it and it's very fluid.
Defense wins championships

Yet SVG is playing him 40 minutes!
His D is the reason, plus he's unselfish with the ball

on top of that, players like okafor and hezonja have had their options for next season declined.

Hot take: Stanley's the best defender on the roster.

His defense is good, but he's still unexperienced. I bet he's gonna be a defensive stud after 30/40 games.

Re: Stanley Johnson 2017-2018 Thread
After the Cavs playoffs performance against Lebron it was clear Stanley could play defense.
Hes stronger now and will continue to keep getting stronger, plus hes fast and agile.
If he had those crazy long arms that some guys have he'd have all-time defense great potential. But he doesn't. Luckily hes got a good attitude of going to work and keeping up every possession.

Stanley is doing fine. Freak was getting tired of banging with him. Offensively, it appears to me he's getting better at using his strength to get shots off without getting them blocked or called for the OF. Best of all, he's playing good team ball.

Re: Stanley Johnson 2017-2018 Thread
I find it really interesting on the general board comparing the SFs from Stanley's draft.
Justice Winslow
Kelly Oubre
Rondae Hollis Jefferson
How do you guys rank Stanley compared to his draft peers?
I see that as a better debate than the Devin Booker argument.

Re: Stanley Johnson 2017-2018 Thread
Devin Booker is an offensive machine and a defensive sieve. He's obviously a better player than Stanley, but in terms of total on court impact, they aren't as far apart as you might think.
