They just resigned Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka.

They dumped Demarre Carroll, who underperformed on a terrible contract two years in a row. Getting rid of him seems like more of a sound business move than a white flag to me.

Awesome trade by Toronto! Definitely not a white flag

Hamilton has potential and they need a big after losing Pat Pat

Getting that big while removing Carroll? That's a masterstroke

They needed to dump DeMarre and possibly JVal to have any shot at making significant changes. This was a smart and much needed move for them.

I just can't believe they gave up both picks for Hamilton.

Hamilton is merely a pawn dude.

Moving that contract was all they wanted.

Demarre was a large baloon waiting to be popped, Masai is very overrated and do not have a knack for talent. But I appreciate him in keeping their core and head coach, teams in NBA are too impatient these days. Being a long tenured team brings success, I see them as an inferior team to Pistons in talent but they have managed to become a team and they are doing their best to stay somewhat relevant

Great move for BKN. For me, their best strategy is to take on bad contracts in exchange for assets. They're going to be bad regardless, so they might as well get something in return as they fill up cap space.

I'm glad we didn't end up with Carroll a few years back. Everyone was raving about him, but at the end of the day, you don't give large contracts to role players. A lot of teams that have done this over the past few seasons are going to regret it, including us. TOR is better off financially now, but giving up two draft picks is a tough sell.

I definitely get it from the Nets perspective, they just got a 1st and 2nd to take on a bad but not horrible contract. With the new CBA a contract with two years left on it with a decent amount could be seen as an asset, on top of that, you get two draft picks and all you gave up was Justin Hamilton.

Toronto acquires CJ Miles for Joseph

Post#15 » by flow » Sun Jul 9, 2017 7:02 pm

And now the Raps' follow-up move.

After dumping Carroll's contract, Toronto has agreed to a sign-and-trade for CJ Miles. Indiana gets Cory Joseph.

Incidentally, did Toronto draft a point guard? They now have neither backup they started last season with. (Ross & Joseph).

By trading for Miles instead of using their MLE on him they also get to use their MLE elsewhere - likely signing a stretch four with it. I wonder if this is where Ersan (or Jonas) end up.

They've traded away their draft picks to get rid of Ross and Carroll.

the trade the raps made was the alternative to us straight cutting josh smith years ago. i would definitely rather take the $6 million/year hit on the cap space than give up a first and second rounder. and we had smith back before the cap spiked and every above average role player was making $15 million/year. we likely would've had to give up more than just a first rounder.

they drafted delon wright in the first round a couple years ago... hes a bit of a combo guard but can play straight point and they have fred vanvleet who was undrafted last year but stuck on as their 4th string PG, played mostly in the D league. those two will compete for backup PG but the raps will have to use a lot of multi-PG lineups so they should all get playing time. they'll be fine in that sense.
