We made some changes already for sure. Hopefully RJ comes back healthy. But is this our lineup for 2017-18?

Unless another team needs help facilitating a trade or is in a bind ala Boston, I don't see anything changing beside adding some 2 way contracts.

At this point the Pistons players need to show value on the court before they're worth dealing. As of today most of the players are worth more here than elsewhere.

We'll make two additions by using the two-way G-League contracts, but other than that - We're done.

Only player I could still see possibly traded is Jon Leuer, and only for different look PF. I keep track of JaMychel Green situation here.

I think it's done. The only exception I could see is Detroit getting in on the Anthony trade because Houston and New York need at least one other team to make it work (since the Knicks aren't taking Ryan Anderson and a future first back for Carmelo). But even then there are a bunch of other teams out there that could get involved so I don't know how likely the Pistons are, especially being decently close to the luxury tax.

Otherwise it's pretty clear Jackson and Drummond aren't being moved. Would make no sense to trade Harris since he and Johnson are the only two guys who can play the three in lineups with only regular size. On the other hand moving one of Leuer or Marjanovic would make sense but I don't think there are any takers for them. It's a terrible market for centers and Jon's value is only neutral at best. The Pistons don't really need anything anywhere else so moving him for a similar talent/value/contract for someone who plays a different position doesn't hold much appeal.

Langlois had a tweet the other day that said the roster was going to stand at 14 players plus the two-way contracts so I'm not expecting another free agent being signed. Would just (and could only) be a guy on the minimum anyways.

For the record I was counting "free agent signed" as signing those two-way contract players because they are free agents and they could play with the team next season in limited amount of games.

If Jon has a good season this year, I can see teams trying to trade for his services when they try to make a weird playoff run. I think Jon is going to be a great trade chip.

The roster will continue to turnover every year. I imagine that once Jackson gets his legs back his value will go up and he'll get traded as his peak value as we've learned SVG loves to take advantage of. Contracts look better after half a year. SVG love to take advantage of teams wanting to get rid of contracts they can't afford. It's tough with Jackson's contract but maybe a team will need a PG after an injury and we have good backup PGs on the team.

We will still sign a couple guys to 2-way contracts, I figure. I don't see another trade unless something shakes loose around training camp. The teams that needed to move players for cap relief have done so (Thanks, Boston!).

I don't think Jon is going anywhere. At his price, in his likely role he's a good contract.

He can kind of space the floor, kind of put the ball on the floor, kind of play good D...dude got gassed last season for obvious reasons.

Yeah, if Leuer is as good to start the season as he was last year that's a really nice player that can fill in a stretch four or five while not being a liability on defense. Just don't think he has that kind of value at this moment because of his big dropoff/lost confidence after becoming a starter (or a little while after becoming a starter).

I'm perfectly happy with Marjanovic and would like to see Van Gundy actually utilize him on a consistent basis. With Baynes out that has a good chance of happening and I'm eager to see it. To me backup center is pretty solid with Marjanovic as the big guy and Leuer as the mobile guy... and both being plus free throw shooters to spell Drummond when needed. I'm not concerned with a full-time backup at that position because I'd rather see a variety of lineups and to go smaller these days it's hard to commit to one player there.

I actually don't want the Pistons to move either guy, not at all really, just if a move was made one of those two make the most sense given the circumstances. If I were higher on Ellenson it would probably be a bigger deal but I'm not so him having to fight for minutes doesn't bother me. The concept of burying first round picks behind multiple players who could/should see the court does... when it's a player I think can become something. Henry still has too far to go athletically and skillfully for me to start buying into the hype.

Yeah don't see us making any more moves outside of 2 way deals.

If Leuer is coming off the bench I'm a happy camper because that means Stanley won the SF job.

He was perfect off the bench for us. SVG brought excitement to me with this team again!

Leuer will log some time at Center so I doubt Leuer will be traded.

If we have to rely on Leuer whenever Dre needs to sit, we are in trouble.

Depends on what Leuer you're getting. Early season Leuer last year was a really good player. Top three on the team with early season Caldwell-Pope and Harris (who was good all year). Late season Leuer... not so much. Might have been him not handling extended minutes over a whole season for the first time in his career well, but it looked like a confidence thing more than anything else.

And it's not going to be Leuer out there every time either. Boban will get time too if the matchup is right. Of course he's a guy that creates matchup problems on his own but Van Gundy is more reactive than proactive so I doubt we'll see him trying to force opposing teams to accommodate. Mobile defense is a definitely issue there, but it's not like he's a bad player overall.

Anyone that believes Bobo is gonna play 15-20 minutes every night is setting themselves up for disappointment IMO

He simply can't play that many minutes every night. He's too big & slow for the league

Some nights he'll play those 15-20 minutes and some nights he wont play at all...which will have some on here blowing up deluxe about what a waste of cap space Bobo is/was.

We can 8 mile every situation we're gonna see this season and the general reaction of the forum:

RJ is hobbled = trade him for whatever we can, SVG was stupid to sign him to big money, he's a poor excuse for a PG/Leader

Dre doesn't show obvious improvement or pouts = SVG shouldn't have signed him to the max, dump him while we can, he only plays to make friends and doesn't care

Kennard doesn't get minutes = wasted pick again, SVG buries kids, he'll never develop on the bench

One could go on and on with what if scenarios but right now I'm pretty happy with the squad we've got considering my off-season goals:

Goal #1: Get a true pro/leader on this team.

Accomplished via AB

Goal #2: Get guys that can shoot and/or defend and/or create off the bounce.

Accomplished via AB, Galloway, Kennard, Tolliver

I view our off-season as:

AB replaces Mook as leader and is a much better fit on both ends

Tolliver replaces Baynes as a locker room presence and a guy that plays better than most people think

Galloway replaces KCP and while he's not better than KCP he still brings 3 & D

Kennard replaces Beno as the guy we want to see get more minutes

SJ - Harris - Bullock
Jon - Tolliver - Henry
Dre - Bobo - Moreland

No need to add another vet IMO

I'd prefer we go for high upside dudes with the 2 way deals though

I actually like the roster at the moment. Need to just wait now for the right trade to pop up again. Curious to see if Reggie can come back healthy which would really raise the ceiling here after adding AB.

I don't think anybody does believe or expect that. Haven't seen it around at least. Just that there's a chance/likelihood he will get those 15ish minutes some nights like you said. Which is great.

But with the NBA the way it is you need lineups that can run too so Marjanovic or any traditional center is out of place. Even Baynes was last season despite him being a really solid defender. But that's where Leuer comes in since he can run and actually defend to and on the perimeter. Especially against the likes of what opposing teams will put on the floor for those mobile lineups. But like I said before I think the concept of a single backup center is pretty much dead. It's more about being able to throw multiple looks at teams or match up with multiple looks being thrown at you. So even if Boban isn't the consistent backup he could/should be utilized enough to be worth most of his contract.

For what it's worth I'm alright with the team as it stands too. Would have been nice to see Jackson and/or Drummond moved, but their market had to be ice cold and the Pistons want to win games. It is what it is, so this offseason was pretty decent in that regard.

I'm kinda hoping RJ is as weak mentally as I think he is now!

Assuming AB walks in like he owns the joint RJ will follow him as opposed to leading others into the "Imma get Mine!" mentality

AB, Tobias & SJ have the right mental make up IMO - if RJ joins that then Dre will follow as well...

Which gives us 5 guys who should not only fit really well on and off the floor but should be capable of making some noise.

Even if everything breaks right with them and Jon, Ish, Galloway & Kennard can bring it off the pine I think we're still one quality forward away from really having something here.

I don't think King Henry is that guy unfortunately because he's too perimeter orientated and we need a slashing 3/4 - it's one reason why I'd prefer Tobias to come off the bench

Dre - Jon - SJ - AB - RJ should be well balanced offensively & defensively.

Jon - Tobias - Kennard - Galloway - Ish as small ball off the bench

Bobo/Moreland - Jon - Tobias - Kennard - Ish/Galloway for more size.

People trash me for wanting a 10+ man rotation...I don't get it!

We have no advantages over most teams - we're not more talented than most! Using our depth to our advantage and playing more guys keeps the lesser guys fresh and throws different defenders at your opponent

I think all those are "fair" & "reasonable"

After that it depends on match ups, development & who has it going on any given night but I don't think there's a big difference for SVG between these groups:

Tolly - Bobo - Moreland - Henry. Only 15 minutes available if Jon plays strictly as a 4 so some nights it should be Henry or Moreland just for their own development and other nights it can be Tolliver or Bobo depending on match up

Going with one of those guys (most likely Tolliver) brings the rotation to 9, possibly 10 already if you split those 15 minutes between 2 guys.

Kennard - Galloway - Bullock. A lot of minutes available here (26) & you don't want to throw Kennard to the wolves immediately - he should get some burn most nights to aid in his development though...so lets say 10-15 minutes.

Now the rotation is at 10 or possibly 11 if you used 2 guys up front.

That leaves Galloway & Bull to battle for 10-15 minutes and I think that's fine

Yeah it's a possible 12 man rotation but IDGAF:

Fundamentally, most likely.

There might be a minor roster move or two, but I think it's pretty unlikely we open the year with a team drastically different than what it appears to be now.
