Pistons 2017-2018 Prediction Thread!

Post#1 » by ByeByeDre » Tue Oct 17, 2017 4:23 pm

So here's one poster's opinion........

If Harris and Bradley are your third and fourth best players, you're a good team.

If either them are forced to be in the top two (like Harris was last year), you are not.

I'm sold that Drummond is going to play better than last year, and most likely be the Pistons best player.

But Jackson? I smell the excuses piling up already, and the season hasn't started yet! SVG with the "RJ and Ish will total 48 minutes" quotes already leads me to think that Reggie might be a disaster and never be the same player Stan signed to the big deal.

I'm taking the Under for wins.

Playoffs? Let's give the top seven spots out already, although I'm not convinced on a couple. That leaves the 8th spot.....

Pistons, Sixers, Magic, Knicks, Pacers, Nets, Hawks, Bulls

There are some really horrible basketball teams on this list. I think the Sixers are a year away - still lots of inexperience. No one else challenges.

I'm taking the Yes for the playoffs.

I predict 37-45, 8th seed, and ESPN analysts go nuts arguing about how Detroit doesn't deserve it when 46-36 Portland is sent home!

A lot of bad things happened last year and they won 37 games, the east has been gutted, they will bounce back to 45-37 I predict. Should be good for the 6th seed.

Man this season. If healthy and they return to form they should win 50+games. BUT;

Can Stanley Johnson become a productive offensive player?

Does this team have a legitimate backup center to replace Baynes?

Is Reggie Jackson going to be healthy?

These are the questions that are unanswered so who the hell knows?

With that said, Bradley is absolutely an upgrade over Pope. I had no idea his impact would be so large. His defense is better then Popes but its on the offensive end of the floor where his largest impact will be felt.

The young guys are going to get burn this year so they need to produce.

On Paper this looks like an damn good team but looks can be deceiving and if key players are not healthy it doesn't matter any way.

Blarg. That's my prediction. Blarg.

I do think this is one of the most unpredictable teams in the league at this point. IF Reggie is healthy and anywhere near the player from 2 years ago and IF Stanley steps up to become the player he should be at this stage, I do think 50 wins isn't out of the question assuming health given how many bad teams there stands to be in the East. BUT I could easily see this being a situation where we are under .500 at the deadline and there's a complete firesale. My biggest concern is we hit the deadline around the 6-10 ish seed (likely) and we give up a future good asset in order for a "all in" playoff push in the new arena.

IF everything breaks for us it could be a really surprising season...

IF those things break the other way then FMD it's gonna be painful

I think Bradley rubs off on Stanley and Dre. I think we can get 45 wins.

45 wins for sure and the playoffs.

Obviously Jackson and Drummond need to play better this year. If we don't get to 45, then time to blow it all up.

45 wins is my thought too. A lot went wrong last season, and they still managed to get 37 wins. I think Bradley will be a big upgrade from KCP, and I’m hoping Drummond takes a step forward in his game. They’re a .500 ball team on paper, and the weak Eastern conference should give them a few extra wins.

I expect RJ to bounce back somewhat, but I’m not counting on him returning to his 2015-16 level. If he can get back to that stage though, this team can scratch close to 50 wins.

1st Game shows me a few concrete sustainable improvements that show the improvement is real:

- SVG is focusing on strengths rather than weaknesses
- SVG is valuing defense more than last year
- sJ is playing for good defense instead of sitting for bad offense
- RJ is dribbling less, passing more
- Drummond is hitting free throws
- Tobias is the truth
- Avery is the truth
- Moreland is playing good d

If Andre, Reggie, Tobias, and Avery all get clicking.. your looking at a very talented team of almost all stars.

This team should only get better this year. Once RJ gets his rhythym back, SJ hits a shot, and Bullock is back, they will only be stronger.

SVG may have got his act together.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

I'm good with the last sentence with the addition of 'If we stay reasonably healthy and don't get to 45, then time to blow it up.

I really liked Marcus Morris, but I think we'll be surprised by how much better our team plays without him playing ISO. Ball movement, ball movement, ball movement.

If Jackson can defer to Tobias as our #1 option, and aim for 7-9 assists per night, we'll get to 48 wins. He needs to think like a Dual Threat quarterback - The more he sets others up, the more the lanes will open up for himself. He can get 14-16ppg, just by taking the open shots that will come.

46-36 and if this is it we have to bump all the Detroit bashing threads in the General Board.
