WHAT THE PISTONS NEED TO DO

#1: Trade Drummond. He's just a name. Nothing more. In all reality, there are at least 30-40 other centers in the league who bring as much to the actual court as he does. His max contract is brutal. His poor effort, defense and defensive IQ is brutal. His offensive game is more or less limited only to missed FGs, missed FTs and easy put backs. His max contract is brutal. Trade him for whatever you can get. Expiring contracts and picks. Whatever anyone will give us to rid us of him and his contract, take it. If someone's desperate enough to give us a 1st rd pick.. tremendous. Not counting on it, though.
#2: Trade Stanley. I love everything about Stanley.. except his outside shot. I think he could become a more perimeter-oriented Draymond soon. But we need a 3 who can shoot 3's.. and shoot them well.. very well.. Period. He's still on a great rookie contract. And he's got some trade value. Hopefully we'll be able to at least get a 1st rd. pick for him.
#3: Trade Reggie. Horrendous contract. Terrible leader. Terrible attitude. And it's just a matter of when, not if, he will get hurt. Trade him for whatever you can get. Expiring contracts and picks. I'd feel very, very, very fortunate just to dump him for nothing, if we can. Hopefully there'll be a contender out there with an injured PG.
#4: Trade Leur. Another horrendous contract. And just a bad player. Ellenson will be better than him by season's end if he gets his minutes. Trade Leur for whatever you can get. Expiring contracts and picks. Again, I'd feel very, very, very fortunate just to dump him for nothing, if we can. Hopefully there'll be a contender out there who needs a -- *hypothetical -- stretch 4.
#5. Draft. We should suck and have a really good pick. Stanley I imagine would get us another decent 1st rd pick. Dre may. Hopefully we'll be able to move up high enough in the draft to get a really good 3&D 3 prospect.
#6. FA. We'll have enough cap space to sign two max guys if we can clear all those contracts. Give Boogie and Isaiah Thomas max deals.
C: Boogie - - - Moreland, Boban
PF: Tobias - - - Ellenson
SF: Pick - - - Bullock
SG: Bradley - - - Galloway
PG: Thomas - - - Ish, Kennard

I think we've had this thread a million times. Nobody is giving us 3 lotto picks and expiring contracts for those guys. Trading away the entire starting lineup isn't going to get a top free agent to sign here either.

Seems pretty extreme. I would however loveeee to somehow get Isaiah though. That would be hilarious if we made it work to rub it into Boston fans

I'm still giving the team this year to make the playoffs and if not, blow it up. As for the individuals you listed...
Drummond- There are not 40 better centers than him. He has been an AllStar. Our biggest problem is that we have extremely high expectations for him. He needs to be a better team defender and I'm hoping AB rubs off on everyone and we get better in that regard.
Stanley - can't shoot. Period. Doesn't mean he is worthless, just means we should look at him like Tony Allen and not like Paul George. It would be better for the team to have a 3 that can score, but Stanley does have some value and a role on our team. We just can't expect him (or pay him) to be a big scorer.
Reggie - this is his year. I think he has a chip on his shoulder and will surprise us. He showed some glimpses on opening night. He's not Steve Nash kind of distributor but he can make things happen. I hope he at least plays well enough to increase his trade value, but hopefully he plays good enough to restore our faith in him.
Leuer - I was hoping he would be a better shooter. I totally agree that we should give Ellenson more playing time and they would be equivalent players except Ellenson would be a lot cheaper.

SVG has been good at trades - RJ ( at the time), Tobias, and Mook for next to nothing. Free agency, he's been bad. We've locked up a lot of money in end-of the-rotation or even bench players. Leuer, Boban, Ish, Galloway - 35M this season by my count.

No, enough with the ridiculous trade threads.
The team looked really good opening night, give them a year to get it together.

Isaiah is looking for Max dollars only. He has stated that a few times. He want's that $30 mil per contract. I don't think he is worth it.

Pistons just have to ride out the season and see where it goes. Everyone's value is too low to get off to a good rebuild. It just won't happen anyways as they would be more than content at this point to just make the playoffs and some money.

Totally agree, although considering Detroit is not a prime free agency destination, you almost HAVE to overpay to get anyone to come. And that isn't a knock on Detroit - a lot of small market teams have the same problem.

Agree. I'm pretty sure that is part of why Ainge (smartly) traded him. Sure he played great last year, but he is getting older for a PG and will certainly be declining during his next contract. He is also one of the worst defenders at PG. That doesn't seem like $30M a year to me.

IT is 28, so on a 4 yr deal, he's likely to stay at a high level. He hasn't been in the league that long, so he doesn't have a ton of miles on him.
I just think that the 2016 level was the outlier, not the norm. I can't see him consistently being a top 3 scorer. He's likely to return to that 20/6 level. That's still fantastic production and someone is certainly going to pay him. Max money? Probably. Having a max contract distorts the market so that all-star level guys get the same contracts as all-nba level guys.

The solution is to trade worse players every year for better players. Problem solved.

I love the idea of trading all our picks for Thompson, but I think you meant either Mychal Thompson or Mychel Thompson. The former would be my preference. He averaged nearly 21/12 during his best year. Once he shakes the rust off he can be a player again. The latter was an NBA D-League Champ. There aren't going to be any more of those produced now that it is the G-League. He'll be able to pass his championship pedigree and wiles on to the rest of our time. Can't really lose with either one.

to be fair, ish and Galloway look like good signings, it the money that he throws at big men that makes me cringe. the cure-all to our problems is turning Boban Leuer and a first round pick into a shot-blocking mobile big that can hit a three and play at a high level. we get that and this team looks very different.

Name the players that are mobile shot blockers & can hit 3s.
Guessing it's a really short list

you are absolutely right, but that's the player we need in SVG system.
there are like 3 in the NBA, and we aren't getting our hands on them, which are Serge Ibaka, LMA, and Aron Gordon. we have to find one in the draft, which two might be coming out Jaren Jackson Jr. and possibly Kevin Knox, but yeah if we find the unicorn this team you have every positioned covered and would just need to upgrade the point guard position to someone who could defend.

The fact that there's only 3 dudes in the league that are perfect compliments in this system says a lot about the system and the roster.
Because Dre doesn't provide rim protection...
Because we need long range shooters...
Because we have a PG dominated system...
The system is flawed! The roster is flawed!
Change the system, change the world

PG-Bradley-Johnson-Harris-C
Ish-Kennard-SF-Ellenson-C
PG-Galloway-Bullock-Tolliver-Moreland
1. Reggie is so irregular that you cannot trust him long-term. During the season he will have a peak of production and that should be time for trading him.
2. Even with the improvement in his FT, Drummond is a poor defender which is a remora for the team.
3. We just have one SF, we need a PJ Tucker type to bench Stanley when he is having a bad time during the game. Tobias loses all his weapons playing SF.
4. I really like Boban but lets face the fact that Stan wants a mobile center who can help in defense. Moreland is just a poor patch right now.
5. Ellenson is ready to take Leuer spot.
We have Reggie, Drummond, Leuer and Boban to move.
Robin Lopez and Pondexter to Detroit
Bledsoe to Detroit
Leuer to Milwaukee
Reggie, Boban and two seconds to Chicago
Drummond and a first pick lottery protected to Phoenix (If we can avoid to send our first pick would be great)
Henson to Detroit
