Avery Bradley: maybe we shouldn't re-sign him
Firstly, I love watching him on our team, and think he is the biggest reason for our success this season.
BUT there are three reasons I'm starting to wonder whether re-signing him might not be a good idea.
1) His biggest asset is his athleticism and he plays 100% every night. Is this sustainable long term? He's likely putting a lot of wear and tear on his body. He is undersized for his position, and already struggles finishing at the rim, so I only think this is going to become harder for him as he slows down.
2) his impact on the team will have lasting effects, even if he were to move on to another team. His professional attitude and defensive mindset has already rubbed off on the others, and a successful season will make these traits stick with the players, with or without Avery.
3) Luke Kennard is going to be really really good and we need to re-sign Tobias and SJ.

As of right now and it's to early to say but I'm all in on the guy. Just his presence out there has turned our team into his play style.

Same thing Joe D said about Ben Wallace.
You dont lose a leader like that and not feel it
You dont lose a leader like that and not feel it
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.

Four years $80 million, with the 4th year being a team option would be ideal. But even if we have to guarantee all 4 years it wouldn't be a bad move to keep him at $20 million per. He's has an all-star type impact on the game when you factor in his offense/defense/leadership.

Re: Avery Bradley: maybe we shouldn't re-sign him
I'm not gonna make a judgement on Avery Bradley until the season is over. I know we're all feeling great right now, we're winning, we look better than last year, we're rolling, AB is a clear upgrade at the 2, but it's still really early.
I like AB a ton, but I'm a little skittish about throwing huge money at him. I'm just gonna let this thing play out because there's no telling how we'll be feeling a couple weeks or months from now.

THIS!
Forget about on the floor stuff - it's everything else you can't replace!
I'd rather trade Jon with our first & then let Bobo & Ish expire than lose AB, Tobias & SJ.
And if it comes to that SVG & Gores better be willing to do the same.

We got some bad contract(s) to give away before we think about maxing AB tbh.

Avery Bradley is one of the best things to happen to the pistons in a while. He's 26 years old...the athleticism isn't even remotely a problem. SVG should do whatever it takes to retain him.

So if I'm reading this right;
Let him go because he may wear down and a rookie?
I think that says it all.

Who said anything about maxing AB?
What is his max?

Re: Avery Bradley: maybe we shouldn't re-sign him
Even if Kennard ends up really good, we have him for four more seasons on his rookie deal, so if we sign Bradley for four years and 20M we're still only paying the position 25M over the next four years - and when this really, really good Kennard is a RFA looking to get PAID, Bradley will be expiring.
And Bradley is enough of a pro to come off the bench if both their respective plays necessitate it, given he's already got paid his generational money contract.
It's almost perfect timing with Bradley and Kennard.

I disagree with the premise that we should let Avery Bradley go and I definitely disagree with this part. Two years ago we had leadership with Blake, Tolliver, and Anthony. When those three left, we collapsed like a house of cards. Leadership skills are no more transferable than dribbling skills.
At the end of the day, it's not about wins and losses. Teamwork, fair play, and good sportsmanship make champions of us all.

Speaking of Tolly, we're probably going to have to use some of the MLE to keep him next year, and probably on a multi-year deal. Probably something like 3yrs 15-18M.

Bradley is the best thing to happen to this team in years. He and Tolliver are essential to re-defining this team. His approach to the game has obviously rubbed off on all of the starters.

At this point we should just hope that Avery is willing to sign with us.

We have to do whatever it takes to resign him. Leuer and Boban needs to go (17 million in dead weight)!
