If this is the case he needs to make his decision soon if we want to apply for the disabled player exception in his case -
https://basketball.realgm.com/analysis/240416/CBA-Encyclopedia-Disabled-Player-ExceptionUnlike other exceptions, teams must apply for the Disabled Player Exception. That application can only be submitted on or before January 15 and the exception can be used no later than March 10 of that season or when the player returns, whichever happens first.
We need to submit application by a week from tomorrow. If it was granted then we'd get $5M to spend on any one player. This could be really beneficial to us in the post trade deadline veteran cuts period.
Other things to know about the DPE -
*The amount of the Disabled Player Exception is the lesser of half the injured player’s salary or the Non-Taxpayer Mid-Level Exception. Technically, teams get an extra $100,000 of wiggle room if they use their DPE to trade for a player but that is pretty much the deal.
*If approved, the Disabled Player Exception can only be used on one player. While teams can choose to split some exceptions like the Mid-Levels and Bi-Annual, the DPE cannot go to multiple players. The entire exception expires once used regardless of the replacement player’s salary. This makes sense given the purpose of the exception.
*However the Disabled Player Exception is used, that season must be the final season on the new player’s contract. This means no option years or anything of the sort. No remaining years, no exceptions.
*Generating a Disabled Player Exception does not reduce the salary of the player in question and has no impact on the luxury tax obligations of a franchise unless used. As an exception, the DPE only functions as a way for teams to add a piece to replace the injured player. The CBA does have a way for teams to apply for cap relief in cases of death and career-ending injury, detailed here.
*Teams can use a Disabled Player Exception to sign a free agent, trade for a player or claim someone off waivers as long as they fit the other requirements. This nuance separates the DPE from the MLE and BAE (cannot trade for a player) and trade exceptions (cannot be used to sign a player).

At what point does SVG and Bowers come under fire. RJ instead of getting surgery opts to play , makes it worst and gets the surgery anyways. Leur hasn't had surgery yet because........................we think its magically going to just heal itself!?
Our best bet is to have the surgery and hopefully someone is intrigued enough in the offseason to take him off our hands. imo

Don't forget Stanley being on and off injured since his rookie year.

I don't blame SVG for that, I have the same injury SJ does and its one of those that just flares up. I wonder how serious it is and if before the draft he had any history of it. Cuz if so, then yes, SVG deserves a ton of blame. Especially considering Booker would have been the next pick

Is there any chance that the team could get one of those injury exception like Boston did if this were the case? Obviously not as high but if they could use it to make balancing contracts in potential trades a little bit easier then that could be convenient.

Teams obviously can't force players to have surgery. He's certainly consulting specialists and they are going to recommend the treatment they think will work best.
And realistically, I'm not sure it matters at all if we get a disable player exemption. We aren't really in a position to be taking on more salary - certainly no more long term salary. I can't image us making a trade that dramatically increased payroll unless some superstar was headed here.

Don't think there's a surgery to help rj's tendinitis

It's not even sure we'd get the DPE as the injury/recovery period needs to take him out past June 15th(ie through NBA finals) in the eyes of the league doctors - would the surgery usually take six months to recover from? Who knows how invasive it would be.
Boston still have the DPE from Hayward to spend. I think the trick is you can only use it on an expiring player via trade and not sure you get Bird Rights with it because that would be a extra benefit for what is supposed to help the team replace the injury for that season only.

Detroit would have no interest in him, and he would have no interest in Detroit.

At this point, Andrew Bogut is nothing more than a name brand.

Boban and Moreland don't even have that. So still a upgrade

Regardless of how you view any of the three, a 4th center is not what this team needs right now.

Actually its absolutely what we need. Boban and Moreland are not solutions and are barely band aids.
