I think its a safe bet we will be signing a SG or SF this summer with our MLE. Here's a list of potential free agents that play on the wing.
1. KCP - Probably will sign above MLE
2. Avery Bradley - too much money
3. Jabari Parker (Restricted)
4. Zach LaVine (Restricted)
5. Tyreke Evans - Probably will sign well above MLE
6. Rodney Hood (Restricted) - We have been linked to in trade rumors
7. Marcus Smart (Restricted)
8. Rudy Gay (Player Option)
9. Trevor Ariza - Maybe gets lost in the mix with Houston signing Clint Capella to a huge deal?
10. Kyle Anderson (Restricted)
11. Will Barton
12. JJ Reddick - Has a solid history with SVG but also scoring 17+ PPG this year.
13. Wesley Matthews
14. Wilson Chandler (Player Option)
15. Danny Green (Player Option) - We tried to sign in the past
16. Wayne Ellington

Just think we gotta be smart here without getting locked into any future bad contracts. Margin for error will be slim to add another big piece to our cap. With what we are trying to accomplish though that player has to better then anyone on that list somehow.
Need to be patient til we get our picks back and look to cash in. Obviously MLE is fine to hand out though

So happy we didn’t pay Kcp 80 mil. Dude needs to fire his agent. Getting all in his head making him think he’s alpha. Almost feel bad for the kid but I don’t.

I'd like to take a look at Rodney Hood, depending on money. Wouldn't mind moving Ellenson, Galloway, Brice Johnson, picks, etc to get the cap room. If Luke, Stanley and Bullock continue to produce and we can re-sign Tolliver cheap, this would be a good lineup until we could get Josh Smith and Jon Leuer off the books.
R. Jackson/I. Smith
R. Hood/L. Kennard
S. Johnson/R. Bullock
B. Griffin/A. Tolliver
A. Drummond/W. Reed

You can take Wesley Mathews off the list.
He has an $18 Million player option and it's safe to say he's taking it.

Hood will want more than the Pistons will be willing to pay. He'd be a good 6th man if there wasn't so much money tied up in Leuer & Galloway.

Stan has stated Detroit won't go into the luxury tax. If that holds true, Tolliver and Buycks being bro8ght back will be the only 2 signings

Yeah… I heard him say that as well regarding not going into the luxury tax.
They will have to find a way to be creative and turn Galloway and Leuer into something serviceable.

If you believe SVG than we're not going into the tax the ROS or next season - which means no MLE spent at all, nor the Boban TPE used.
But for sake of argument in this thread - I think most PO's opt in and the money won't be there for them. I could see Chandler opting out though as he seems unhappy in Denver and I could see him a full MLE player.
No restricted player is signing for the MLE - their teams would match.
Conventional wisdom with JJ Redick is that he got $22M this season to take less money with 76ers on his next contract with them after they sign a max free agent. I could see them signing JJ to the MLE.
Marco Bellinelli is probably a partial MLE type player that Stan would be interested in. I could see us trading for him at the deadline even to get him into town.
Which teams have money? That money goes quickly a lot of the time on the big fish. I think the new norm in the NBA is free agency is going to have three tiers - Max players, MLE players and League Minimum players with very little in between.
I'd be interested in PG availabilities as well. Could bring in a better back-up than Ish and than deal Ish away. Ish is owed 6.8M, so difference between full MLE player and him would keep us under the tax I believe. Just have to deal him to a team with cap space for a top 55 protected second rounder - that team gets a cheap expiring to back-up their young prospect point guard.

That's a massive lineup but I worry about the spacing. Also, even though I'm intrigued by Hood, I haven't watched a ton of him. I hear people saying he is a terrible defender though and that scares me for a guy who doesn't exactly have the highest efficiency.

Things obviously could've changed, but I remember Gores saying in the past that he was willing to pay the LT if we're a contender. So while I believe he definitely wouldn't do anything like that this year, if we make a run and are looking good with Blake, I wouldn't be shocked to see us go into the luxury tax next season, or maybe the following one.

I did my own homework on point guards -
Isaiah Thomas - Too expensive
Elfrid Payton(restricted)
Tony Parker - does he ever leave SA?
Jeremy Lin (PO) - interesting possibility
Rajon Rondo - too strong a personality for Stan
Marcus Smart(Restricted)
MCW - yucky
Jose Calderon - yucky
Derick Rose - yucky
Yogi Farrell(restricted)
Devin Harris - yucky
Seth Curry - Possible?
Cory Joseph(PO)
Lou Williams - too expensive
Austin Rivers(PO) - bwahahahahahahaha!
Milos Tedosic(PO) - Interesting if he opts out. Big guard shooting .341 from three, should improve.
Super Nintendo Chalmers - ???
Jason Terry - nah
Aaron Brooks - nah
Shabazz Napier - Should be considered
Dante Exum(Restricted)

I watched him say that quote too but I don't think he meant we will never go into the tax. It sounded like he was saying, based on our current contracts we won't be in the tax next year either. I think if we are showing promise and SVG has a good move lined up, Gores will go into the tax.

Question is Ish Smith on $6.8M or one of these for Full MLE - difference of about $2M, keeps us under tax.

Lin and Teodosic could be interesting as well over Ish Smith.
