SVG's Body Language

How fun can it be to play for a coach that displays awful body language after pretty much every basket scored by your opponent and every turnover/poor possession on offense? Seriously, just watch this clown during the games....embarrassing. He certainly does not have to be their best friend but that **** would get old in a hurry. I think his demeanor hurts the team, I really do.

His demeanor, his whining, his screaming, his post-game presser answers, his substitutions, his x's and o's, his time out plays...

He has the job because he is a personable guy (away from the court) and sucked Gores in.

That snippet that Tellum was the point person on the Blake Griffin trade was only mentioned by one person, but if it's true it means that Gores has lost some trust/faith in Stan, and there is a real chance he could be fired in the off-season if we don't make the play-offs. Stan will whine about Reggie Jackson being hurt and how he should have one more season - but you don't want a lame duck coach/GM working in their walk year. The off-season decision is either extend or fire.

Hopefully it's fire....team is going nowhere with that clown as their coach. That demeanor may have worked in the 90's but has no chance to work today.

Who said that Tellum was the point person on the Griffin trade?

That was Ron Jeremy in Body Language XIV: Kama Sutra for Average Johns, not SVG.

Agreed that it has to be tiring on the players... I'm all about teaching the young guys but at the same time we aren't going to make every shot, we aren't always going to take good shots. We aren't always going to play great defense. Its about doing it most of the time and if the players aren't getting it done don't play those guys.

Pop and SVG are night and day when it comes to sideline demeanor.

More concerned with our idiotic pnr coverage that leads to a ton of open 3s, than with SVGs body language

I heard Marc Stein on a podcast mentioning rumors from multiple sources than Tellum is going to assume control of basketball operations soon, or after the season. Which, frankly, I'd be more than pleased with at this point. If nothing else, if should be able to properly valuate players, opposed to paying 3 to 4X their actual market value and going "oh well, we're Detroit."

Also, now would be the perfect time to move on from SVG. There are some reasonably solid candidates out there that could inject some life into this squad. Nobody I'd be overbearingly excited about, but SVG has done a poor job coaching for years now- not just recently.

I think David Fizdale could be a candidate. He got a lot out of Mike Conley in Memphis, and had a team with basically Conley, Gasol and a bunch of over the hill players and G-league players in the western playoffs. No small task.

But, really, I can't think of anyone beyond Fiz. There's been a lot of coaching stability the last couple seasons. And, hiring assistants to good coaches is always a dice roll. Tons of teams have hired Pop's assistants and they've mostly been awful to mediocre. Bud being the one exception, but he was an assistant for a solid decade, not a year or two like most.

Sorry for the long post. Bottom line- yes, I'm all for a changing of the guard. If we miss the playoffs (absolutely possible), I think that will be the death knell for SVG. And, would be for the best.

That's the downside of getting rid of SVG. He's a slightly below average coach but he's not awful. Now that you've invested in a guy like Blake you can't really take a flyer on a college coach as easily unless its someone like an Izzo or something. Puts you in a tough spot.

No, I don't think Gores would take a chance on a college coach, unless someone made a hard sell that he's the next Brad Stevens. Billy Donovan has been a middling pro coach in OKC. God, I could see Gores hiring Coach Cal, or some ridiculous hire. Now I'm scared.

It was mentioned here or on the GB in one of the Blake trades that somebody tweeted about it. But I cannot find it - search function here is ridiculous. Tried an outside search and only come on the Stein mention that was mentioned - but it seems to say he it's believed by many that he will take over Head of Basketball Operations side. So either the person I read it from here had a different source (maybe something said on radio), misinterpreted what Stein said or I misread what they stated at the time.

No clue. I'd wager it depends on what his opinion of Bower is and their relationship. If Bower was in charge of the draft board, fire him immediately. :D

I wonder if Izzo might look at a NBA gig now with the Nasser stuff at MSU and how he keeps stepping in it to defend/protect the University.

Shaka Smart was a big name not too long ago.

No idea on Izzo. Assuming he's not involved with Nasser, he should be safe at MSU. He has job security perpetually, and a top rated men's BB program. If he decided to leave MSU, I don't know he would go for the volatile coaching environment of the NBA.

Lol if people here don't like SVG's body language I doubt they'll like Izzo.

And Shaka has not been good at Texas

Hey if there's anything I'm EXTREMELY impressed about Stan Van Gundy is how he developed Andre Drummond. He developed him and Dwight Howard. He doesn't get enough credit for developing All Stars and even Jackson bloomed under SVG. I still believe in SVG and the amount of time I give him is the rest of this season. I think he's gonna do it right when Jackson comes back. We're going to be an extremely dynamic team. I think we'll soar to be honest. Jackson completes our team because he maximizes Drummond's offense. Put him with Blake and Jackson is a good spot up shooter. We were in the Top 4 for first half of the season with Jackson playing. I just hope Jackson doesn't force himself when he comes back. This is going to be a very exciting season.

Besides Drummond, I feel like he buries a lot of young players in favor of veterans. If Harris and Morris were not traded, Stanley Johnson would still be sitting at the end of the bench. We're seeing the same with Henry. I just hope he's a little more willing to develop young guns.

Yeah this is a legitimate gripe, he keeps young players on too short a leash sometimes.

The magic made this mistake to a greater extent with Mario Hezonja. Buried him on the bench for 2 years, decline his team option, finally give him significant minutes/role and as it turns out he's actually pretty talented. Now instead of holding onto him on a rookie scale contract he'll be playing elsewhere next season (lol...)

I think he's done a good job with Kennard for the most part. Mins have increased throughout the year and he has a consistent role, though I do wish we ran more plays for him. As far as Ellenson goes he's been too horrific on defense whenever he plays. Idk.
