Coaching proposal

Larry Brown has been sitting at home, restlessly, for over a year now. Relieve SVG of coaching duties Wednesday after the game, and hire Larry Brown Thursday morning for the remainder of the season. He'll have nearly a full week to conduct a training camp, with Drummond being the only player with all-star wknd responsibilities. And even he'll get 4 days of practice in. Let LB bring in whoever he wants to assist.

No one loves a challenge more than Larry Brown. He's bored. It's a roster he'd be attracted to. He'd be in a short-term, no-lose situation. He'd do it.

The team would thrive under LB. Premium would be placed more on getting the ball to the rim than shooting long distance. There would be structure. Bullock and Kennard would be run off screens and have sets run for them. RJ and Ish would be ridden hard, but would thrive like Chauncey did. Dre would be drilled and forced to pass out of the post. Blake would be giving play-making freedom, but would be prohibited from jacking 3's. Most importantly, the team would defend. Whether they like him or not, they'll respond to LB for 25 games because he has the cache and because it would be as much a challenge to the team as to LB himself.

Attendance at Little Caesars would climb.

At the end of the season, the parties can either walk away with no strings attached or work something out for next year.

Nothing to lose.

We're really reaching for straws now

I know most of us would welcome any coaching change at this point but this is 3 steps north of unrealistic.

My hope is SVG will either sink or swim bringing RJ back into the fold and a decision will be made in the offseason.

Regardless if he's successful or not I'd like the players to get the message delivered a little differently. Blake seemed more comfortable with less coaching.

This team would turn on LB in 2 weeks. This isn't a team full of professional players committed to winning. It's a bunch of young guys still figuring it out, a bunch of guys who only came here because SVG gave them a nest egg for retirement, and a guy who many people still think is a superstar, but looks like ZBo from 3 years ago.

It's not that young a team, and all players want to win. Coaching matters. They wouldn't turn on him after turning on SVG in the same season.

Love LB, but he wouldn’t fit in today’s NBA. He was also terrible at developing young guys.

this is what we have to look for. go for a young, up and coming mind. someone who gets the new style and can work with what we have while implementing his style and process. build a team with a coach.

I had a vision the other day that our next coach (whether next year or down the road) will be Scotty Brooks. I really hated that vision and hope it doesn't come to pass. But, I mean, a vision's a vision.

Honestly, no ideas sound good right now.

It's just that kind of frame of mind at the moment.

This idea really sucks though.

I'd take David Blatt. He didnt get a fair chance due to Lebron not liking him. Hes a smart basketball mind.

Outside of Blatt as others have said a young unproven guy. Somebody like Stevens whos big into analytics. No more old school coaches. Need a coach whos in touch with modern nba play.

I really don't know, coaching just seems like a Bunch of recycled candidates over and over. Where you find that Brad Steven type to build with for the next 20 years and beyond like a Doc in SA scenario is tough to find.

Celtics having Brad Stevens at his age with his system though has to feel like such a blessing.

I like him personality wise and Memphis hasn't been the same without him although the Conley injury has to be taken into consideration.

I don't know too much about his offensive or defensive schemes but he seems like he would communicate well with the modern NBA play and that's half the battle.

"Take that for data!"

I like Fiz too, and think he did a good job in the playoffs last season.

He also seems really respected by former players, and that’s a huge plus. Many players expressed anger over his firing.

If SVG gets canned in the offseason, we should look at coaches like Fiz who can connect well with players. Either way, I think he gets another shot at a head coaching job soon.

Any word as to went wrong in Memphis? It seemed like there was something to it with his abrupt firing.
