Re: Scouting for the 2018 Off Season
Anybody else feel like we should move on from Ish? I really like him as a backup but if/when Reggie goes down he just isnt the guy that can fill in at starting PG for a descent period of time.
I know we are limited this offseason (and next) but just a thought.

him only having one year left on his deal takes away from his trade value, and the trade value of a backup point guard isn't great to begin with. last offseason, for example, the raps traded him to the pacers for draft rights to a random euro (CJ miles was a free agent, it was essentially a sign-and-trade). CoJo had a year plus a player option left on his contract.
i say we keep ish because:
- he's cheap ($6 mil next year)
- he's on a short deal (leaves some flexibility going forward)
- he's super durable (missed one game in two years)
- he's still a high-level backup
- in the last 18 games of the season he shot 44% (22/50) from 3. obviously it wasn't on a ton of attempts and they were all wide open but the fact that he has shown some improvement on keeping defenses honest gives me hope he won't be a complete non-shooter next season.
- kind of piggy-backs on the last point but for the first time in his career he wasn't completely inefficient as a scorer.
off-loading leuer and galloway's contracts in salary-dump trades would be the absolute best-case scenario for us this offseason. it's a shame it's a difficult task.

Ship Luer & LG out of here as fast as we can I agree.
Ish will finish the year here but I just want guards that can shoot like every other team in the league has.

Ish really isn't the problem. We aren't signing a starting caliber backup pg just in case reggie gets hurt again. Obviously, if you get an offer to upgrade the team and ish is a part of it, you trade him. No reason to shop a decent backup pg on a short deal though.
