Reggie Jackson at SG

The simplest way to make the most of what they have is to start Jackson at SG and Bullock at SF.

They'd need to sign two PGs that can shoot and have high PPR numbers. Sign those guys for Rondo money.
Add another SG/SF that can shoot.

Simple enough to be the 3 or 4th seed next year.

Meh, Reggie just needs to stay on the court. That's where the main issue lies.

I mean, Reggie as an off-ball player and secondary playmaker rather than the main guy works in limited quantities; he often moved off the ball with Blake or Tobias taking over...

That being said, our offense is better when Reggie has the ball in his hands. He doesn't cut as well as our 2s, he's not the same spot-up shooter as Kennard, Galloway or Bullock, and he'd get burnt trying to guard most 2s.

If you give me Malcolm Brogdon or Jrue Holiday (guys who can defend both positions and hit the 3 ball) and decide to call Reggie the nominal 2, then so be it.

Yeah, I'm not opposed to running 2 PG like some other teams are doing but our offense isn't good enough to offset what we give up defensively. It would take a very specific type of guard to make it work and I don't think we can find that player.

Not sure why we get these threads every couple weeks. We have a hole at X, so let's try to stuff someone in it even though it isn't their natural position.

Realistically, we need an upgrade at 1-3. If we want to actually be competitive, at least one of those need to be an all-star level upgrade. Obviously that's going to be a tough thing to pull off, so if an all-star level 1 came along and we ended up playing RJ at the 2 for a while, so be it. We don't have any perimeter players that are a clear cut foundation piece, so I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about how an acquisition would fit with them.

this is my line of thinking too. unless we get a guy who can guard the two on defense and run the offense and switch it up with reggie, he needs to be our guy.

I presume that you've taken inspiration from Jrue Holiday's situation, as the Pelicans primarily played him off-ball at shooting guard this season and he played very well in his team's first-round sweep for the Blazers. Sadly, there's no comparison between he and Jackson. He's a substantially better player than Jackson. And the Pistons don't have the pieces to make it work. They haven't got anyone even remotely as good as AD, nor do they have a highly efficient stretch four; they did, but they traded him away in order to build an antiquated and obscenely expensive frontcourt with an absolute garbage fit.

Jackson isn't really fit to start at shooting guard anyway. He's an inefficient shooter, and whereas Holiday is able to defend ably at both guard positions, Jackson struggles to defend at either one.

We also haven't got the means within the cap to acquire anyone good enough to start at PG, and starting Jackson at PG would push an undersized Bullock into SF.

It just won't work. There aren't any good options here. Thank Gores and SVG for building one of the most broken teams in the NBA. Only the Hornets compare.

What I hope this suggests is that we finally move on from the reggie at pg experiment that’s been nothing short of miserable.

Isaiah Thomas say hello to your full MLE contract offer lol.
That would make him Reggie and Blake all huge injury risks with terrible defense. Let's go! Lmao
Dre Leuer
Blake Ellenson
Bullock SJ
RJ Luke
Isaiah Ish

In Reggie's 3 full seasons here, we have a record of 93-83 when he plays and 27-43 when he doesn't play. Doesn't seem miserable to me

Well, luckily we don't have our MLE available to us.

He's been good enough when healthy. Elite? No, but nobody's claimed otherwise. Still, the notion that this new so-called Big Three will make waves is bizarre.

The Pistons currently have the full MLE.

Nope. Used to sign Langston Galloway and Eric Moreland.

No, we used the 2017 exemption to do that. This summer , it resets. We get it every year unless we go into luxury tax territory and then it's reduced.

My mistake, you're absolutely correct. I had it in my head that it lasted until the last contract ended (so we got it back when Galloway's contract was up...)

The problem is Reggie isn't that reliable of a shooter. He has shown he can be a high quality point guard when healthy. But our wings are pretty much garbage.

Yeah, he's not a good enough shooter to be our 2.

He's barely a good enough shooter to be our point guard. Might not be. We haven't actually seen him with our group.

Of course I'm not sure there's enough shooting in the world to make Blake/Dre work...

He's never been an efficient shooter.

No amount of shooting can erase their AWFUL fit, and we'd need some elite scorers from 1-3 in order to compensate for the fact that both of them operate from the inside. Such players would, of course, not fit particularly well alongside the ball-dominant Griffin. He is a nightmare to build around; that's why Jerry West didn't want to re-sign him, and it's why nobody else was very interested when the Clippers came calling.

The fact he hasn’t played for nearly a 1/3 of his time here and were only slightly above .500 when he does play, yet treat him like he’s the truth of the franchise, is miserable. Nothing short of it. Keep eating the mediocrity hype.

Also, Reggie as 6th man is great way to maximize him in this Pistons' space.
