Draft Lottery

Post#1 » by theBigLip » Mon May 14, 2018 9:05 pm

How will you celebrate when Pistons get a top 3 pick? :-)

If there is ever a year when we need to win the lottery, this is it. Pushing the traded pick off a year, and hopefully getting into the playoffs, would be even better. A #12 this year or a #14-20 next year? May the basketball gods forgive us for picking Darko and give us another quality pick.

Same way I celebrated drafting Drummond. I'll be jumping up and down like a little kid in the living room. I knew Drummond was gonna be amazing right away.

Would it even be worth it to get a top pick this year? I mean we don't have a coach, a president, or a direction. Are we going to trust a top 4 pick to a lame duck GM who may or may not be around next year? The way I see it, if there were ever a good time to not have a 1st rounder, it would be under these circumstances.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

You can't be serious. Getting a top 3 pick might attract a better GM for starters. And almost in any circumstance, if you can pay your debts later than right now it is a good thing.

I'm not exactly sure what we do if we get a top 3 pick, but it certainly gives us more options.

I'm going to assume we're out of green font at the moment.

Yeah. It's dumb. Kennard is good. But there's this weird prevailing either/or mindset in sports/sports fandom that when comparing two players only one can be good so the other has to be bad. Both can't be good. No way.

Anyways, this is kind of nice news since Bower was expected to represent the team at the lottery. Means he's closer to his way out. I don't think the new president will keep him around, but you never know... Just hoping for a clean slate.
