Summary of the next year...

We hire a GM that most fans are unhappy with. Won't be a former Piston.
We hire a coach that most fans are unhappy with, will likely be a retread like Casey or someone else who was a head coach before but didn't get the most out of his team.
We keep this core going into the season.
We end up making the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed.
We lose 0-4 or 1-4 to the Celtics or Sixers.
Our draft pick in 2019 is in 15-18 range and won't be an impact player.

I want the trio Reggie-Stanley-Drummond far from Detroit.

Your pessimism is topic worthy.

Sounds about right. If everyone stays healthy, we could get as high as 4th seed. Of course, a few injuries, and we are drafting 10-12

I can see us making the playoffs if relatively healthy, but that's a very big if, particularly for Reggie. We finished within 5 games of three teams for the last spot last season and from a stability standpoint, well, it was more like chaos.

You never know. Last year at this point I would have bet good money on simply resigning KCP for a near max deal, using the draft pick on Kennard (that seemed destined) to add some shooting and a couple vets to help stabilize the locker room. I don't think anyone would have predicted we'd be worried about Blake's contract and his fit with Drummond.

Who would have thought Resigning KCP would have saved us from all of these current problems

I’m not sure we’ll make the playoffs. Little reason to believe Reggie or Blake will be healthy to play enough games. I think we’ll spend a lot of the year short handed. Turns out money doesn’t cure injury-prone-ness.
But hey, I’m still not sure we aren’t a better team with Blake off the floor. So there’s that.

There's too much up in the air to bother speculating about playoff positioning. Lebron could stay in Cleveland and they could swing something with pick #8 or he could go to Philly and a team like Toronto or Washington could look hard at shopping pieces, opening up the bottom of the playoffs in the East.
Or he could go to the Lakers or Rockets, opening the East wide and bubble teams in the East could push hard for a now "wide open" conference while teams like Portland in the second/third tier in the West could look to move pieces.
I do think if this team wants to get serious about anything they need to find another perimeter play making option. Maybe that comes from internal growth with Kennard or maybe a legitimate piece shakes free and we can consolidate for it, but relying on Reggie / Blake and to a small extent (and because he can't play with Reggie) Ish as the only means for creating anything is a recipe for failure.

I think Tyreke could be had. Arn used to be his agent

I'm interested to see what the sportsbooks put our win total for next season at. They seem to do a really good job at putting those lines really close. I'm guessing we end up at a 42 win prediction we shall see. Bovada had us at 38.5 last season and we finished 39.

I'm certain the Pistons would've finished substantially better than that with better injury luck and a coach who didn't suck quite so much.

So basically the last 10 seasons minus the playoff appearance
So excited for what's to come!

Hiring Casey is done, now time to move on to the next step. Get that GM that everyone is going to meh on and get the core ready to compete to make the playoffs as the 7th or 8th seed.
