More like "Casey agrees to a 3 year deal with a big fat bonus at the end".

http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/23761429/dwane-casey-agrees-5-year-deal-detroit-pistons-new-coach

The Pistons stayed aggressive in pursuit of Casey, and closed on a deal Monday morning to land the franchise's primary coaching target. Owner Tom Gores and senior advisor Ed Stefanski sold Casey with an aggressive contractual commitment and a case that together, they could make the Pistons a perennial playoff team in the Eastern Conference.

The Pistons are committed to building the roster around All-Star forward Blake Griffin, who they acquired in a February trade from the LA Clippers.

He's a good coach and a really good person. A great motivator, always seems to have control over the locker room and pretty good at everything else. He helped the Raptors rebuild, grow talent and turned us into a 50+ win team, he just couldn't get us over the hump.

Now that Casey's been hired, do Pistons fans think Luke Kennard will start next year?

Wow he got SVG’s contract without the president responsibilities. I’m cautiously optimistic. He was my second choice. Interesting they said building around Blake and not Drummond

Also everyone focused on Nick Nurse orchestrating the offense. Guess who orchestrated that Mavs defense that shut down the Heatles. Drummond is going to be a defensive force under this guy.

Congrats Detroit, the guy lasted as long as he did in Toronto because he was widely respected and the players always showed up for him. He’s a classy guy with an amazing life story, from growing up in the South during the civil rights era to coaching in Japan to here.

I hope he has the same success in building up the program there that he did in Toronto. The playoff losses were frustrating, but there’s no questioning he’s the best coach we ever had.

Im actually okay with it.

:blank:

It’s the best hire for the direction we’re on.

A direction I fundamentally disagree with in every fiber of my being.

I hope Casey does great as our next coach and hope we can turn into a real team now but I won't get too excited about the hire like I did with SVG. The one thing I like about this is Casey is much better at getting players to play hard for him, a lot of times it felt like our guys just stopped trying for SVG.

4 Years from now, when this team hasn't advanced past the 2nd Round, we'll look back on this and say "Why didn't we rebuild". Building a team around an aging, injury prone player that was overrated at his peak, Griffin, is a plan that's predestined to fail.

i'm glad we hired him. obviously he isn't without flaws but he was able to turn a raps team around that was like the pistons have been (consistently on the brink of playoffs or worse) into a competitive team year in and year out. we aren't going to turn into a contender overnight but that was never the case. best to build a winning program step by step and casey proved he can coach a team through some of those steps.

given the news that management is sticking behind him and that a lot of the guys were hand-picked by SVG for his system it will be very interesting to see who gets moved. the raps were super PnR-heavy which is good for jackson (and potentially drummond) but i wouldn't be surprised if either of them got moved.

the team could look drastically different in the near future.
