Teams want 1 yr FA deals to keep money for 2019 FA Class...

We won't have money for that bidding anyways, so we could look to profit off these teams now by offering Ish Smiths expiring and Leuer to get a $16M player in return on a longer term contract. The other team would give up this better player because they want the 6M shaved off their cap space for free agent bidding next off-season.
Ish + Galloway = 13M player coming back
Ish + Leuer = 16M player coming back
Ish/Galloway makes more sense for us as we're creating two holes if we move Ish and Leuer, but Galloway is wholly redundant on our roster so Leuer is kept as PF and we trade Ish and Galloway for a combo guard with legit PG starting ability.

Hell Bullock is also expring, though only $2.5M so more valuable to us. GRIII would also be considered an expiring that could be dealt come December 15th.

What 13 million dollar non expiring would be appealing enough to do that?

Even though Blake and Dre can iniate the offense, I'm not sure im comfortable moving our only backup PG for Reggies annual injury.

Yeah it would have to be a 13 million dollar playmaker coming back. In order for it to really benefit us it would have to be a playmaker with 2 years left on his deal in that price range. Does such a player exist in the NBA? Who would it be? Is that a team trying to create cap space? All relevant questions.

Only way I see it happening is by us getting back some sort of pick for the troubles cause the player coming back couldn’t be anything special

This is how you wind up with washed up albatross contracts. Not being a FA player next season is a bad reason for continuing to mortage our future.

Lou Williams signed for 7M.
Eric Gordon is signed for 13.5.
Smith/Galloway/Bullock = Deng, TPE = Lonzo Ball shaves $14M off LAL's 2019 number.
Smith/Galloway/Bullock/Buycks seems to equal Goran Dragic. Waiters is another from Miami.
LAC, Houston, LAL, Miami all consider themselves destination teams who could be hot after the Klay Thompson, Kawhi Leonard, Kemba Walker UFA class...
Miami or LAC make most sense. Dragic or Lou Williams I guess is what we'd be looking at.

Edit- we could decline Ellenson's rookie contract option and he's essentially a expiring I believe (same way Hezonja's was made UFA this off-season) and use him in place of Bullock in most cases.
Ish Smith
Langston Galloway
Henry Ellenson
Dwight Buycks
to Miami for
Gorgan Dragic
Miami shaves 9M off their 2019 cap number and we become -
Jackson|Dragic|Brown|Evans(GL)
Kennard|Bullock|Thomas
Johnson|Robinson
Griffin|Leuer
Drummond|Moreland

Ish/Buycks for Lou Williams works as well -
Jackson|Williams|Brown|Evans(GL)
Kennard|Bullock
Johnson|Robinsin III
Griffin|Leuer|Ellenson
Drummond|Moreland

Thus far its looking like Isaiah Thomas has no market. That being the case, Detroit should have pursued him on a 1 year deal for all the money under the tax.
That would have allowed Ish to be moved for help at more needy positions.

Definitely would have been an interesting option. Sign IT for our MLE money, trade Ish for a back-up wing similar to GRIII.

We're not mortaging our future if it's someone on a 2 year deal.
We're more or less stuck with this core for the next 2 years no matter what we do.
The only concern I'd have is if it interfered with our ability to resign Bullock without going over the tax. Which it very well might.

I think we'd pay the tax next season. Tax doesn't become an absolute killer until the 3rd year you pay it and beyond. We don't pay it this year and then Gores can pay it next three years - final three years of Griffin Contract and basically the remaining window of this current squad. After which you let Griffin walk and you're out of the tax again.

No way Lou Williams is traded, that's one of the best contracts in the NBA
But MAN if we could get Dragic, ohhhhhhhhh

We dont need that cancer in the lockerroom
He is going to be stat padding and looking to dominate for his next deal
Of all the players we could have signed thank god we didnt sign IT even if he blows up next season we wouldnt be able to keep him anyways

Yeah, if we're talking about longterm deals here forget about it.

Dragic would be the tits. But I think there would be a line-up of teams wanting him so Miami, if they decided to blow it up, would get value in return for him above SOME cap room. And Klay is potentially the only UFA that will hit the market and would want to go to a team ready to compete and thus Dragic would be a selling point to play beside sorta deal.
