He’s always seemed like a possible diamond in the rough type of player that goes unnoticed

I like Alan Williams. But Kyle O'Quinn is better, and also available. (though probably more expensive).
O'Quinn can play. He's the anti-Drummond - low on raw athleticism, but high on basketball skill and iq.

What's the scoop on our chances? I thought we were maxed out money wise? Right up against the tax right now no?

I'm sick of the phrase "Piston's DNA".
When we evaluate talent we give an edge to players with that "Piston's DNA".
Probably why we suck.

We suck cause we did not go after such players the last years

If we could get either Alan Williams or Kyle O'Quinn for the minimum I would be ecstatic. I doubt O'Quinn will sign for the minimum, he declined his PO which was like 2x the minimum.

KOQ turned down $5M PO from the Knicks. Only way we get him would be to have the Knicks S&T him here, and they don't want to take on any money past this season for free agent hunting purposes.
I don't think Williams is necessarily an improvement over Moreland.

If I'm not mistaken he would get paid a little more than 2.3 million if he sign for the minimum, the cap hit for us would be a little less than 1.4 million, so, he "declined his PO which was like 2x the minimum".

My understanding is Leuer's injury was pretty serious and there's a chance he will never get back, at least not to what he was.

No, he's been back for a while now.
If Williams can be had for the minimum it would be great. Waiving Moreland before the deadline on the 8th would give the team enough room to stay under the tax. I don't think it plays out that way though.

1) Contrary to popular belief, Moreland was actually a solid player last year.
2) When y'all keep bringing up these end of the bench type players you want to cut Moreland for and sign to minimum contract, y'all are forgetting that Moreland has 2 years available at his dirt cheap price.
Why cut a guy that has shown he can be an adequate player who you can control VERY cheaply for 2 seasons, for a guy who would only be coming in for 1 year and you don't know how he would mesh/perform in Detroit?
The luxury tax problem probably isn't going away next summer either. Why get rid of a cheap contract, especially one that plays a position of need and can do it somewhat effectively?
