All I want for Christmas

(ok, not ALL, but it's up there) ...Is the same thing I've wanted for years now - A coach who runs a structured offense with actual sets and specific plays.
Is it too much to ask for? Apparently. The Larry Brown coaching mentality is becoming extinct. But I do see it on other teams from time-to-time. Not here, though. And a roster like this - where offensive talent and shot-making ability are woefully scarce - is where you need structure the most. This is just painful - the standing around, the flailing drives to the basket, the shot-jacking - like I was afraid it would be with Casey. He's better than SVG overall, but way too similar at the same time.

We have some. Not many, but some. However, our coach prefers to play guys like BB and SJ, who are essentially non-shooters and make constant bone headed plays, over guys like Thomas and Kennard.

I've liked Casey overall so far but I have a couple MAJOR gripes with him. It's cute and all when you give the players "freedom" but when you literally watch Drummond single-handedly hand over 5+ possessions per game by doing his stupidly inefficient post ups, throwing impossible bullet passes through crowds of defenders, and trying to crossover guards from the 3 point line then it's time grow a pair and say no. My other problem is that he chooses guys like Bruce Brown and Stanley Johnson as regular rotation players over guys like Khyri Thomas and Luke Kennard. No wonder we can't shoot. The most infuriating part about this is that BB and SJ are complete garbage and certainly have not earned their spots. SJ had his cute 3-5 game stretch of good basketball and now he's back to bricking everything. Brown has always sucked.
Aside from those issues I think his offensive (when guys actually hit the shots they should make) and defensive schemes are pretty good and he gets this team to play hard most nights. I don't think we are going to see old school coaches calling every play down the floor and most of the time when they do it's a basic high P&R or something. Casey has actually been pretty good drawing up plays too now that I think about it. He just doesn't try and script games with set plays the entire 48 minutes.

Kennard has been healthy for 4 games all season and has been battling injuries since the summer league. Khyri was been battling injuries since training camp. I think that has a lot to do with them not playing more. Once they are both fully healthy and Casey doesn't give them an extended look over an extended period of games then you can complain about it.

I thought about this too and would normally agree and give Casey the benefit of the doubt but he has already given Kennard a DNP-CD in the CHI game for no reason. There has also been no talk on a minutes restriction for Kennard and yet he still didn't even get garbage minutes last night. I think it's clear Casey has some bias against him.

Was he even dressed for the most recent Chicago game or are you talking about the one on Oct. 20th? If you're talking about the one in October Bruce Brown didn't play in that game either and look at him now. Shoulder injuries are a bitch. He's still having soreness issues with it. He actually wasn't expected to play against the Thunder but the Bullock injury forced Casey's hand. If the NBA had injury reports like the NFL Kennard would be listed as questionable or at best day-to-day right now.

So much this. Stanley is actually middle of the pack this year at 40% shooting from the field for our perimeter rotation. It's nasty out there, and we don't have anybody on the perimeter shooting even remotely respectable from three. Blake's our best outside shooter at a satisfactory but not amazing 36%.

Give it time, I think Casey will make the right choices, he's still experimenting. Brown/SJ are defensive players sure, but we've seen Galloway get time too, he's a "shooter" streaky one but at times he's good. In the end Kennard will get his time, it's just he's been hurt so much I think that is holding him back, not any Grudge that Casey has against him, Thomas I'm not sure of, he may be a miss of a pick.

First it was SVG holding him back, and I love how people are now pushing a narrative that Casey has a bias against playing Kennard.
Its all the coach's fault. Minute allocation should have nothing to do with health, performance in practice, or in game performance.
Luke Kennard needs to play 35 minutes a game because he's freaking Luke Kennard.
