Will Detroit be above .500 again at any time this season?

Pistons are currently 17-19 two games below .500
Currently the 9 seed behind Miami(6), Charlotte(7), and Brooklyn(8).

Coming up we've got:
vs Utah
vs San Antonio
@ LA Lakers (will Lebron be back yet?)
@ Sacramento Kings
@ LA Clippers
@ Utah Jazz

We can definitely get over 500. Win the next two games which is very much doable and the course of the season changes. Ish smith comes back and we can get a winning run. The NBA is very competitive, it's up and down all season. What if we end up winning 10 games in a row at the end of the season? Things change quickly with other teams with injuries and trades. Anything can happen. Regardless if we're above 500 or under 500, it doesn't change the fact that we are not contenders. We need experience so we need to get to the playoffs. We also need more talent, so missing playoffs and getting a pick isn't bad either. Whatever happens, the worst thing you can do is stay around the 8th seed. Either take another big gamble or tank. I think we'll be taking on another big contract gamble like Wiggins or Porter. Story stays the same, we're not doing anything until the trade deadline.

I think we are destined to finish the season at exactly .500 as the 9th seed

I really REALLY hope we just crash and burn and improve our draft position. Blake’s a good player but he’s nowhere near worth his contract and this team has already peaked.

Watching games would be so much more enjoyable with a team full of young promising prospects as opposed to the overpriced **** we currently have.

All aboard the tank train!

Hell yeah man. Sounds like more fans are joining us on the rebuild train all over pistons pages on the internet. Nobody wants to see this 8 seed-late lotto **** anymore.

I'm praying someone buys Blake. Hes been good this season. Has to be a team like the hornets/blazers/kings/pels/jazz that would be interested in adding an all-star. Start stock piling future picks for when the rules going to change back to high schoolers can go pro right away. Ship Drummond for bad salary and draft picks too. Lets become good again!

I feel like there was only a very small portion of us that have been preaching for the better part of 2-3 years and as you say it’s good to see others finally coming to their senses and realising how badly it’s needed. A first round knockout in the playoffs will sell some extra tickets but it’s not going to invigorate the fan base like Gores thinks. If he wants to pack the arena and give us a good team, we need to tank and develop players.

Blake’s been good but that contract is just so bad that I’m not sure if we traded him we would get any decent assets in return. Can only hope some team is stupid enough (other than ours) to make that gamble. My bet out of those teams would be Charlotte. Would hope to trade him for Williams, MKG, Willy, 2022 1st & 2nd unprotected. Pretty sure we would need MKG to sign off as he’s a FA but still I would jump at that deal.

I will be happy to buy a first class ticket aboard that train. Blake was a “win now” move that didn’t work because the rest of the team around him isn’t championship or even playoff caliber. Throw in his salary and it makes no sense (to me anyway) continuing to chase “win now” opportunities that build around Blake. Like I’ve said many times before, I hope the team just rolls this year and next with what they’ve got; after that it’s pretty much a completely clean slate. It’s like continually trying to patch neverending holes in a boat because it’s got a nice but expensive sail. At a certain point it’s better to just replace the whole boat.

I think we'll hover around 500 for the rest of the season. We'll likely hit a couple game hot streak where we go above for a bit. I'm just hoping we don't do something stupid to try to "move the needle" from 0.500 to 0.501.

I will be happier if this season goes into the trash can and we get a good pick and some meaningful change in the deal. I think we are all done with the horrible streak of mediocrity.

I think Drummond will take his $29m option for 2020-2021.

Yeah most likely. Look at what Capela signed for 5years 18mill per. DAJ signed for 1 year 24mill. Center market isnt what it used to be.

If one year of a 27 year old 18/17 guy for $29M is the worst of the team's "bang for the buck" problems I'll gladly take it.

I think everyone from the coaching staff & players got the memo to tank, except for Blake.... Dre & RJax hid his copy on purpose for laffs to see Blake bust his ass to try & win while most are just chilling the fudge out.

You mean 18 points scored on vomit-inducing efficiency, paired with trash defense and a despicable work ethic? I think I'll pass. The guy can rebound and that's all. $29 million goes to star centers, and star he is not.

Dre is the hardest player on our team for me to figure out trade value. Anything I feel like another team would be willing to do I feel like we wouldn't do. Anything I feel like we would do, I feel like no way another team would give that up for him. I honestly don't know how many teams would even be in the market for a player like Dre. If I could get almost any contracts with less time on them and a first round pick it'd be hard for me to turn down but I can't see many or maybe any teams giving that up for him.

I don't have any love for Drummond either. But like I said, if a $29M center putting up 18/17 is the WORST of the team's "bang for the buck" problems two years from now, they're probably in pretty good shape. It's not like that $29M in 2020 is going to get a star center putting up a whole lot more than that by the simple fact that there isn't a whole lot more than that to put up. What are you looking for--22 and 18? 25 and 19? That will get $35M or more in a couple of years. Try to keep it in context.

18/17 doesn't mean much. Its more about your impact on winning/losing. You can be a 15 and 12 center and have a big impact on wins and losses or you could be a 18 and 17 center that demands post ups, routinely gets dominated by opposing centers, and steals rebounds from teammates. Just wait until he isn't an all-star next month and Blake is he's probably going to go into pout mode again like last year when he was selected by the coaches to be an all-star.

Seeing as though we're 4 games below .500 today and this thread asks "above .500" do we win 5 more games than we lose the ROS? Clippers games appears to be Game 41 as well so if we lose to Lakers, Sacto and Clippers we'll be 7 games below .500, need 8 wins to be above .500 in the second half of the season. I know our schedule lightens up a bit, but I don't see us going 24-17 in the second half.

You're missing the point. For the third time, if a $29M 18/17 Andre Drummond IS THE WORST OF THE PISTONS' BANG FOR THE BUCK PROBLEMS IN TWO YEARS, I'LL TAKE IT. There are worse problems to be stuck with...like Melo, for example.

In no way did I ever try to justify that he's worth $29M. But Andre Drummond doesn't have zero worth, so it's not like it's $29M completely flushed down the drain for zero return. 18 points and 17 boards is still 18 points and 17 boards, which is better than 12 points and 9 boards, for example. Not to mention that you can't "pass" and believing his production "doesn't mean much" doesn't mean...well, jack s**t in this context because I'm not arguing whether or not Drummond is worth keeping on the team. The assumption was that the Pistons are stuck with him if he exercises his player option. My point is only that Drummond is not the worst value player in the league by any stretch of the imagination meaning he's not the worst problem a team could have. That's all I'm saying.
