A common theme I have been preaching is the hope that our front office will use our future expirings as collateral to desperate teams looking to swing deals for big trade targets. Well, there's no bigger trade target available than A.D. And the desperation levels won't ever get any higher.

I can't immediately see how we can nose in to become a third team given the timelines of our expirings but maybe someone else out there has a different perspective?

Note that this is not a thread about trading for Anthony Davis. It's a question about if it's possible to benefit from helping a team like New York or L. A. clear space; in the process acquiring picks and young talent in return.

And finally, this could very well be a non-starter / not possible. I just read the Davis news and figured I'd ask.

We could certainly get into a 3 way. Move Drummond to New Orleans, New Orleans sends The Brow to Lakers/some other team, and we get the young players and picks. I'd be down with that.

I’d give up anything for AD especially if you can get some lotto protection on picks. Even if he leaves that jumpstarts a rebuild. If he doesn’t, then you’ve got a top 5 player. Problem is every GM probably realizes that. Would be nice if Gores and CO. won the AD lotto

After looking at that trade I posted, I'd switch our JL for Langston...We'd need a backup 4...Unless they want to give us Randle instead of E'tuan..

I wouldn't even care about protecting the picks..They can have this year and 21 unprotected..We'd be nasssty..

Let's get back to reality which is:

1. There isn't is any situation ever where we actually could trade for AD.
2. There isn't any situation ever where he would ever resign with us.

Thanks for taking a stab at this. This was more in line with what I was thinking when I started the thread. I don't think Drummond alone is enough of a return though. NO can get way more directly from either the Lakers or Celtics. You also forgot the part where we take on big contracts in return for expirings along with the young players and picks

I wish we could trade Reggie and leuer/galloway for holiday once NO move Davis to the Lakers.
We aren't getting AD.

Let Davis join a super team. I want jrue and Moore for the pistons.
So basically either really go all in or purge the roster in a couple weeks

definitely wouldnt mind jrue holiday way rather him then mike conley.

One way is NO get Drummond and picks. We get young players. If we get two of Ingram/kuzma/ball and a Center I would think that’s a win.

I'm sure we could help facilitate a 3-way by taking on another bad contract.

We need to make a trade for Mirotic and Holliday and keep Reggie. Hear me out, we have a trade exception we could use to go over the cap. Trade Ish, Galloway, Leuer and GFIII and 1st rounder for Holliday and Mirotic.

Blake/Mirotic
Dre/Zaza

That lineup can turn this whole season around. Pelicans get two expiring now and two next year with a pick. We get the offense and defense we need out of the point guard position and the perfect flex big to go with Dre and Blake.

This is just a total non-start. We aren't going over the luxury cap and we certainly aren't locking ourselves in to long term luxury tax land for non-star players.
