Post-Flip Coaching era

It has been somehow wild with all the coaching changes since 2008. Pistons have been relatively quick to fire their coaches. Do you think any of these guys have been fired too impatiently?

I thought they were all awful hires aside from SVG but I underestimated how much pros who are already paid and grown men don’t take kindly or play as hard under scrutiny like that. Felt some hard love or no non sense coach was what our franchise was needing to hold players accountable but it back fired.

Mo Cheeks should've been allowed to finish the season.

Only SVG really deserved the job.

I think coaches are a dime a dozen, with the exception of a select few like Pop who can get blood from a stone. Even the shine seems to be wearing off Stevens a bit with the Celtics having too many cooks in the kitchen. Kerr putting Draymond in was a happy accident, David Lee got hurt and Draymond was the next guy up. Same thing with Stan in Orlando, Tony Battie gets hurt and he stumbles into playing Lewis at the 4 with Turkoglu at the 3.

Since Flip we haven't had the horses, simple as that.

Frank was worth taking a shot on. He didn't pan out, but he was worth a shot. At least he had some sort of NBA head coaching experience prior to taking the job.

In a league where the same coaching pool is used, none of these guys will be head coaches again. That says enough

Frank is the only conceivable one. I would have given him another year.

He was a complete joke, no one would've given him another year.

I really want to forget the last ten years, and I think Stanfanski is finally doing the right thing best case scenario we’re east contenders by the end of griffins contract, doubtful though, whatever he scraps together this summer will tell is the direction when laur, Jackson, and Galloway expire. We need a young pg, he needs to find one that can compete for a starting job, the knicks have couple that might be a year or two away.

All deserved, down to the last one.

Curry was never NBA coaching material in any capacity, neither was Keuster- he ironically had some of the worst offensive schemes I've ever seen.

Frank was a pretty smart guy and very well prepared, but nobody respected him.

Cheeks was a really nice guy who people liked, but he simply didn't know what he was doing as a coach.

SVG is just too intense- people tune him out after a while, and SVG the executive was unforgivably bad.

The only one the probably got fired too early was Cheeks, simply because I believe every coaching hire should get one full season before getting canned.

SVG is the only one on this list that I think is a good coach overall, he just wore out his welcome and the game sort of passed him by it seems.

I disagree about Cheeks as a coach. Given the roster, 21-29, and looking better as he was fired, wasn't too bad. Cheeks has as much cred as any former player, and a number of 'major' Pistons at the time lamented his departure. Cheeks was never given a fair opportunity to guide the team. He was scapegoated in my view. I realize opinions may differ. :)
