Most teams especially the good pistons teams have had "personality"/culture for the team. This team lacks that in a big way. We had Bad Boys, Going to work, etc. Now nothing. That is the big reason why I am for a rebuild. We are so far away from anything that lacks "team personality". In an ideal world, I would keep Blake because of his leadership yet I do not see how we could get value without trading him, also in the ideal world I would get rid of Drummond and Reggie who in my opinion are anti of what we want to build.

That's just a marketing slogan, once a team wins someone applies a slogan too them, first you start winning then the slogan follows, not develop the slogan then the winning follows.

The personality for the bad boys was physicality, Go to work was Defense and team hustle. Current = Nothing

These are all just cliches & marketing slogans(as the other poster said).
What we need is talent, simple as that.

I’m with you. As long as Reggie is here and Drummond is treated as a franchise player this team will lack in personality and culture of what it meant to be a piston.

Need a franchise player to build around and start to form a identity around him. Blake would be that guy but time isn’t really on our side with him to slow rebuild

My argument is Blake IS that guy to give us that culture and that's why he's worth 30-40m. In the meantime we need find the next franchise player and Blake can instill that mindset into them. That's why I'm for extending Blake after this contract. I see him as more valuable than his performance in games. At the same time, he's also our biggest asset. If we have to flip him for a chance at another franchise player like Russell with the Nets, by all means...

This is kinda like trying to give yourself a nickname.

All the winning identities are basically the same. Play hard, physical defense. Move the ball on offense. Have talented enough guys that can just make plays when the prior 2 aren't enough.

People are getting too caught up in OP's mentioning of the nicknames of our championship teams.

The bigger point being made is certain historic franchises make certain draft picks or trade for certain players and it more often than not works because of the system placed. they also draft players that fit the team/scheme/identity they dont shy away from. in the past 20 years the Spurs, Steelers, Patriots, Red Wings etc come to mind. For as much as Gores wants to embrace the past, he for sure does not try to get players that fit the scheme.

Before the heat and warriors won their titles, the Pistons had the 5th or 6th most championships in the NBA. Enough to build on the identity that gifted the organization 3 rings.

SVG had the right idea when he drafted Stanley and traded for Marcus Morris. Cancelled it out and ran it into the ground signing guys like Leuer and Galloway.

People bring up attendance a lot but the facts are if the team isn't winning, the team the way it's currently constructed is not a team you want to spend your hard earned money on. Galloway and Ellington play very low IQ basketball and Ish is okay when playing other bad teams.

-Blake is someone you can rally behind
-Reggie and Andre are wishy washy, Reggie particularly is not very likable
-Kennards the cool great white hope but his low ceiling wont get the team more ticket sales off his game alone. Hes a nice bench piece if you are serious about winning.
-Bruce Brown fits the Detroit mold and hopefully he continues to develop.

Pat Beverley is a player the Pistons should highly consider for 2 seasons to get the ball rolling on reestablishing that identity.
Rodney Hood if he can be had for a bargain
Quite frankly there are 10 players Id be happy if the pistons draft, (PJ washington , tyler herro, cam johnson are not one of those 10)

The 80’s Pistons got their emotional life from Laimbeer, Rodman, Mahorn, and Zeke.

The Warriors get it from Steph and Draymond.
Iguadola just said he wants to win for Steph’s legacy.

That’s some I am Spartacus stuff.

One reason I like players like Sindarius Thornwell is because he has the Draymond type emotional life and game.

His emotional identity gave life to South Carolina during the tournament.

This team needs more emotionally vitalizing players.

Emotion is what makes people family and fight for one another. Pistons need more of that element.

Yeah, you can’t just apply a label to an existing team, say “Okay, this is what we need to be” and think it will somehow make them better. It’s a process. What pieces do you have? What are they really good at? How can you use their best abilities to succeed? What do you add to that core to complete the final product?

It’s an organic process.

This is why I'd love to bring Draymond here somehow. Even if we overpay or he's past his prime, he's a culture setter.

Blake is probably our first true leader since the going to work team. He works hard and sets a great example, but he's not a great defender so he's not really going to change our identity on that end. When we talk about a team's identity, it's usually a defensive identity. I think the way the league's going you just need to keep adding long 3&D guys in order to have a good defense. You also gotta have flat out dogs, like Bruce Brown. If we look at getting these types of guys in then we'll improve our defense and start to develop some sort of identity.

As much an elite and great player Draymond is, we can't bring him here, he'll be brushed aside to irrelevance since largely what he's capable of is through Steph and somewhat lesser in Klay. We've seen how that entire team falls off a cliff when Steph is hurt and doesn't play. It truly does start with Curry, and everyone on the Warriors are benefactors of his play style.

Right now our defining characteristic is mediocrity and lack of any clear direction or purpose. But that is what you get with a treadmill team content on being an 8th seed.

Drummond and Reggie are clearly the heart of this issue
