One possibility for next summer, assuming Snell opts in, is that he could be traded as an expiring. Hopefully Snell has a good year so that would be an option for the Pistons.

here’s the thing, snell is overpaid, that much is clear, BUT he fits both in terms of skillset and position-wise. every team has overpaid guys, it just happens. the problems start to come when those guys aren’t playing/not fitting with the rest of the team. leuer was $10 million of absolute deadweight. snell cost a little more, but will absolutely play and contribute in areas where we desperately need it. people keep pointing towards cap space (which we’ve done such GREAT work with in the past...) even though next years FA crop looks to be pretty weak at best.

the draft picks are very good too, but I’m not getting into that part of it.

this board is all over the place. you don’t wanna spend the full MLE this year to keep flexibility, yet you’re mad that we’re losing leuer’s expring. you wanted a home-run prospect, but you wanna complain about 2nd rounders when we clearly are gonna have to play it safe in FA. my ex is more level headed than some of you.

Leuer for Snell and #30 is even better. And don't discount Leuer is 10M expiring while Snell is owed 12M next season as well.

Yeah, and Detroit has been dreadful in the draft. Does that mean they should stop seeking 1st round picks and just sell them off for scraps?

Not sure what point you're trying to make in the last paragraph. If people are hesitant to use the MLE to keep cap flexibility, of course they are disappointed Leur's expiring got moved for a longer term contract. You act like that is people talking out of both sides of their mouth, yet the common theme with both your examples is keeping cap flexibility.

Also, what does complaining about 2nd rounders have to do with playing it safe in free agency? If Detroit is going to make a habit out of selling off their cap flexibility for scraps, than we better all get used to to having to play it safe in free agency every summer.

This season will mark the third season in a row that Detroit was hamstrung by luxury tax concerns. Its time they practice a little patience and stop striving for these marginal upgrades, that aren't even coming cheap.

Ya I hear ya. I Just think we're all so damn frustrated with this team that every move that is made makes us pissed off and paranoid lol. The 30th, even though it's a "1st rounder", was guaranteed cash we just didn't want to keep. Would have prevented us from using the full MLE and BAE. Maybe we have a commitment from 2guys and maybe we'll all be smiling and happy once they sign  Probably not Haha
Also the name Kevin Porter didn't help either. But let's just hope our guy from Lithuania turns out to be a better player :noway:  :nonono: :banghead:

It would have prevented us from signing a second vet minimum player to round out our roster. 30 OA gets about $1.4M salary slot guarantee, basically the same as vet minimum deal. So another Jose Calderon/Zaza Pachulia or Edwards, Claxton, Fernando, Porter Jr.

We need to sign 4 players with our 13M in cap space - we won't use all of the MLE anyways.

I think Snell will fit well here between Reggie and Blake. Dude can camp out and shoot threes once one of those two are double teamed.

MLE + BAE = roughly $13million to spend. We have roughly $13million in luxury tax space. If we had the 30th we would only have roughly $11.5. Our front office mathematicians make the Lakers look pathetic

Now that I think about it, I could actually see us splitting the MLE on two guys that would normally get the BAE money. The ol Detroit discount that works against us. So let's say a guy like Jeff Green would normally sign for BAE of $3.6 we could use a portion of the $9.4MLE and sign him for $4.7. Then use the other $4.7 in a similar way. Then do two vet minimum signings.
Or use the whole MLE on one guy like Rose or Beverly or Seth and then 2vet minimum types. Both options dont use our BAE.

And this is exactly the kind of potential problems not having cap flexibility creates. Tip toeing around the luxury tax affecting how they draft.

If Sirvydis comes over, they will only end up saving about $600k on him vs #30.

He glosses over the point when we had traded Leuer for Snell and #30. I'm on record here liking that deal.

Take #15 out of the equation as it is a non-factor we had #30 and #45 and that became #37, #57, 2023 Portland 2nd rounder and $3M cash.

Snell deal - good, trading away #30 for crud - bad.

Our Trade Checker page has Doumbouya, Porter Jr and Roby on our roster at the moment. :banghead:

The $3M is meaningless - goes into Gores pocket.

Doumbouya
Porter Jr/Fernando/Claxton/Edwards
Bone

Vs

Doumbouya
Sirvydis
Bone
2023 Portland 2nd rounder

Take out the constants (Bone could have been drafted at 45 if we didn't do the Cleveland trade) and it further boils down to -

#30 for #37 and 2023 Portland SRP - Our choice of Porter Jr/Claxton/Fernando/Edwards or Sirvydis/Portland '23 SRP

I've been following and watching Tony Snell ever since these two games in 2015
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/s/snellto01/gamelog/2015/#120-121-sum:pgl_basic

Two of the most efficient back to back games in the preceding 20 years in the NBA and after the all-star break Snell gets 15 and 17 min the next two games. I became intrigued by his potential.

Career 10pts, 4rbs, 2ast per 36, 40% from 3pt the last three seasons, good passer, a solid defender on positions 1-3, sometimes a great defender, can also guard some 4s. Snell progressed this last season in getting more 2pt opportunities and more trips to the line. He was at 12pts per 36 this last season and its possible he could get to 15 pts per 36 with more usage. He is a team first player and will ALWAYS pass to someone more open than he is. If this fits Detroit's needs, Snell will be a great fit.

However, the coaches, players and fans in CHI and MIL became disappointed with Tony because they wanted from him. Yet, a play is rarely run for him (besides the handoff three pointer). Snell's main weakness is he is the ultimate team player and takes whatever role is given to him without complaint. I'll continue to follow Snell in Detroit to see if he can play with a chip on his shoulder.

When was the last time you checked snell's contract and his on court production? He is a 10th player at best, in his best days being paid as a good starter.

He can obviously shoot the ball, he just needs to be more assertive in the offense. If he can do that, there's no reason he cant produce.

didn't realize Snell was 27..he's going to be a nice stop gap player until we have a real sf ready to play. that could be sekou but it would be silly to assume he'll start out the gate

although Bruce brown was a day one starter (eye emoji)

15,30 45 and Snell was the best scenario and pistons ruined it. don't let the local media idiots try to spin it.

Still. Jon Leuer was not deserving of being on the team.
And who's to say Snell starts. Offseason just getting started. Snell will make a solid contribution either way. He'll be our new Bullock
