We've been doing stupid stuff for so long, everyone is easily impressed.

He did pretty much what he had to do, considering we had no money and not many tradeable assets.

That Snell trade brings the grade down. Snell isn't good or an upgrade over any of the wings we had last season and we dumped pick 30 when KPJ and Bol Bol were both on the board. For the sake of future discussion around here, I hope neither of them ends up being any good.

Snell is light years better than SJ. He's better than Brown, too...

Eh the team is pretty much the same one that barely made the playoffs last season.

Yeah, light years ahead of the guy that averaged more points than him last year. Those 3 players are in the same tier at best.

Unfortunately for Snell, the low bar of "not being worse than Stanley Johnson" is not the one he's going to have to clear next season. It's the Bullock and Ellington bar, since he's penciled in as their starting lineup replacements.

Last year we were at best a 6th seed and at worst a 10th seed.

This year we're looking like we're at best a 7th seed and at worst a 9th seed.

We're not going to be better than that unless some of our guys have some great internal growth.

We're still firmly on the treadmill we've been on for the past decade.

Yea, a whopping .9 pts more per game all while shooting more and and a much worse %... And Bruce Brown started more games at SF than Ellington and Bullock...combined.

Man Snell is a scrub it doesnt really matter if he id better than Brown or SJ they both are below average players. We have a very bad wing rotation probably worst in the league we can only hope guys like Kennard and Brown actually improve next season.

Agreed. These type of koolaid posts generally appear before the start of the season. This one got posted way too early, imo.

You say that like its a bad thing

The last regime overpaid for BAD players

Those leuer galloway and boban signings are a sign of horrible executive intelligence..one of the worst offseasons in pistons history .

On the flipside you have stefanski doing much more with less.

So we should praise him for not being as bad as the guy he replaced?
The phony culture (Reggie/Drummond era) needs to come to an end.

The Tom Gores pistons are not real Pistons.

Snell and Morris are both ok additions, and if Rose stays healthy and finds that 3 point shot he could also be a big payoff.

The thing is, none of those additions push us up more than one spot. We're likely a 7th seed at best right now unless we get big growth from some of our young guys.

We need Blake to be even better than last year, we need Reggie to play like $100 million contract depends on it, we need Dre to take another step forward offensively and become a defensive anchor, we need Kennard to improve on both sides of the ball and we need Brown to become a solid 3 point shooter.

If most of those things happen we could maybe push ourselves up to the 4/5 seeds but its not going to happen unless we get a good amount of internal growth.

Improvements to the Nets and Heat will also make it harder to move up.

It is being posted that we were an 8th seed last year which is technically accurate, but if it wasn't for resting Blake down the stretch, we were a pretty solid 6th. Bucks, Boston, Philly, Toronto (w or w/o Khawi), and Indiana are all better than us. And as Snakebites just mentioned, Nets and Heat have gotten better (although are the Nets really going to be better this year? Add Kyrie, lose Russell, that seems like a wash to me). If we have a great year, we get home court, if we have a crappy year, we miss the playoffs. If the latter happens then hopefully we are trading Blake and Drummond and getting expirings and picks.

I think we got better as a team but that doesn't mean much.

Kieff, Rose, Frazier & Snell are all upgrades compared to who they replace but again that doesn't mean much.

Dre - BG - Kieff (Thon)
RJ - Rose - Frazier

The drama lies on the wing. We need a couple of kids to take a step forward

Not saying this to center you out but I'm just not impressed with Brooklyn's improvement. KD out for whole year. Even the heat dont seem much better. Jimmy should have teamed up with Kawhi then I'd be impressed

Also don't think the Nets improved much.

Kyrie in for DLo depends on loads of things.

Jordan addition is interesting given they have JA starting at the 5.

I'm really interested to see how Prince goes.

the heat are still not a playoff team. they shouldn't be in the discussion.. especially when Butler clearly chose Miami for lifestyle and partying Instead of winning.

Kyrie can definitely get nets to the playoffs but that team massively overacheived and played well due to their chemistry last season.

pistons are more than likely a 7seed but the top heavy teams are alot different now. Toronto will not be scary if kawhis gone, Milwaukee still Milwaukee, Boston will be a threat but Philly moreso.

Indy will have a better record but they're just not a team to be afraid of. pistons will have another first Rd exit but I think the end result will be much less embarrassing

He was decent. Helluva job is an exaggeration.

The bar was set low.

I agree it may not be a “helluva job” in reality but it’s definitely a “helluva job” in relation to previous management.

I’m just thankful there’s no head-scratching 4 year contracts in free agency and that they’re focusing on guys with higher ceilings in the draft.

i really like what they've done. this team clearly needed more shooting and guys who could score/make plays and they added that with the limited resources they had available.

rose isn't near the player he used to be but he still puts a lot of pressure on the paint and is a much better scorer than ish is. because of his size also, he allows us to play two-PG lineups and not give up a ton in size (rose 6'3 with a 6'8 wingspan, jackson 6'3 with a 7'0 wingspan). unlike with ish who blatantly drove looking to kick it out, teams won't be able to stay at home on shooters because rose attacks the paint looking to score, which means help defenders will have to leave shooters to stop rose.

tony snell is essentially a SF version of langston galloway where they are good spot-up shooters but can't do much else offensively. snell can't the ball as well as langston (which isn't even that good) but he is a better shooter and teams will pay if they sag off him. considering blake/reggie/rose/drummond (the guys who get the most touches) are at their most dangerous near the rim having guys like that is important.

markieff morris isn't the best shooter from deep but he does provide a little of what marcus morris did and that's the ability to just be thrown the ball and create some offense, which we definitely didn't have last year with our backup bigs. he's essentially everything we wanted leuer to be when we signed him with the added iso ability. morris had a noticeably worse season last year so we have to hope he bounces back to his previous form and doesn't continue to decline...

obviously it's going to take time to see how the rookies pan out but i'm a fan of the moves he did with the vets. rose, snell and morris should all be upgrades over ish, SJ and thon.
