Why do Pistons never sign G-leauge ? when Stars available

Example: December 2016: Signing Spencer Dinwiddie
With no draft picks of their own, the Nets needed to stay stayed active and take chances on young players. They had used the G-League to develop and find new talent, having discovered rotation big man Quincy Acy through that method previously. But in December, they struck even bigger, signing Dinwiddie to a three-year, partially guaranteed deal.

A former second-round pick of the Detroit Pistons, Dinwiddie had washed out in Detroit, and been cut by the Chicago Bulls before being placed on Chicago’s G-League roster, allowing Brooklyn to acquire him. In a story with NBC’s Dan Feltman, Dinwiddie recognized he had limited options and took a chance by signing with Brooklyn, saying:

“I was told that there was no other opportunity. There was no other option. So, obviously I wanted to be in the NBA. So, I signed.”

Dinwiddie has become the leader of the Nets second unit. He averaged 16.8 points per game in 2018-19 and can play both guard positions. Atkinson can either have him running the offense as the main guy or he can play off the ball, using his shooting to keep defenses on their heels.

According to Marc Stein of the New York Times, Dinwiddie was also instrumental in recruiting Irving over the course of last season. They were classmates in a Harvard business class and became friends through that.

1) Detroit has had their backs up against the luxury tax threshold the last few seasons, and will again this year
2) Detroit is a team that frequently rolls with a full 15 man roster, so roster spots are at a premium
3) Detroit already doesn't play their youth on the back end of their roster, why bring in more?
4) For every Spencer Dinwiddie there are many, many G League signings that don't last past their 10 day contracts
5) The recent addition of 2 way contracts have drastically diminished the need for teams to look for G league free agents

Two of the worst teams in the NBA were scouring the G-League trying on parts to see if they fit, that should not be surprising. I am not saying that the Pistons are above scouring the G-League, maybe they should, but you do have to look at the squads at the time of the below mentioned acquisitions.

Anyone remember how Dinwiddie was hot garbage with us?

Yeah he was probably still coming off his college injury, but for what he showed here, can't really blame us for letting him go.

Covington on the other hand was a travesty. First pick in the D-League draft in 2014, and look at these dudes that we rostered instead of him:

Joel Anthony
Cartier Martin
John Lucas III
Kyle Singler
Luigi Datome

Hindsight is 20/20 but damn....join me in crying over this spilled milk.

dinwiddie being garbage with us is never something I can agree with..

his game against Chicago was more memorable than anything Steve Blake did. a winning franchise post 2016 would not play Steve Blake over a young rookie that had flashes

svgs problem was his short leash. he's probably ruined more bench guys than we may know and dinwiddie was lucky to leave us and that horrible bulls franchise.

Sean Marks and Brooklyn simply just get it.

Van Gundy has been a total disaster.
You don't need a weatherman to know which way the wind blows.
