Big3 MVP Joe Johnson working out for Pistons

Post#1 » by Uncle Mxy » Tue Sep 3, 2019 10:45 am

https://www.freep.com/story/sports/nba/pistons/2019/09/02/detroit-pistons-joe-johnson/2194555001/

Earning more than $200 million over 17 seasons, the 2001 first-round pick appeared to be wealthy. But he starred in the Big 3, a league mostly made up of cash-strapped former players, making the winning shot for the Triplets in Sunday's championship game.

Should Joe Johnson play for us and delay his inevitable HOF induction?

Do we offer him a max contract like so many other teams?

Will Luke "The Puke From Duke" Kennard be traded for a bag of chips?

The team is currently over the luxury tax, over the roster limit, and has 5 SG's.

Makes a ton of sense to bring in a 38 year old SG.

For perspective, Joe Johnson averaged 21.9 ppg in the Big3. Wil Bynum was at 18.2.

Isn't Big 3 half court basketball? Big difference between that and full court NBA games.

Where's this idea that Melo being blackballed coming from? His talents are severely diminished, but the drama and media coverage seems to have only picked up steam this past year. No coach wants a malcontent on their bench, let alone explaining a players minutes to the media after every game. He's simply not worth a roster spot.

I might be overplaying the significance of a player working out with a team but my first thought was that it was a bad sign that we are still actively looking at castoffs to sign at the 3/4 positions. It makes me feel a bit better that he appears to be getting looks from better teams though.

As others have alluded to, I have serious doubts he still has the legs to do anything besides spot up shooting (i.e. play defense).

Ahhhhh yes, the connection is established lol

Well at least he’s still more athletic than Deividas Sirvydis, another Tellum client of sorts.

Joe Johnson at 40 may still be better than anyone the Pistons are rolling out at SF. Baron Davis is available too I heard.

There is no point in chasing the fraction of improvement that Joe Johnson MAY bring. That’s treadmill talk right there.

More like we might need some bodies after a Chris Paul trade. Would probably be a 4 for 2, or even a 4 for 1 type trade.

Joe Johnson is done playing meaningful mins. He excelled in the big 3 because everyone there is washed up and its a picture perfect rule set and style for his methodical, isolation heavy game.
