Wood, Johnson or Other... Who Gets Cut?

Post#1 » by GreekAlex » Sat Sep 28, 2019 12:02 am

There’s been a lot of talk about who will get the last roster spot.

Get your vote in!

If you vote other, please specify in a post who will be cut if you believe it’s a different player.

Personally I’d like to keep both but if I had to choose one, I’d keep Wood. I really like what he brings as a three point shooting rim protector.

I’ve always thought there was no point in having “lame duck” players so I wish there was an opportunity for the Pistons to trade Langston Galloway & Thon Maker in a 2 for 1 deal to open up an extra roster spot. I don’t see either player on the team next season and I don’t think either player brings any intangibles that’s worth investing a roster spot for a full season.

Unless Thon Makers work in the off season and extra muscle has transformed his game, I don’t see anything he does better than Wood.

I thought Bone didn’t count because he just had a 2 way contact.

Bone doesn't count. If it's not Wood or Johnson it means we're into the tax. Svi MIGHT be unguaranteed as well though.

My gut says Johnson will be cut.

I base this on absolutely nothing.

I don’t think Johnson will sign here if he didn’t think he had a solid chance to make the team I think Galloway will be moved before the season to keep both wood and Johnson

Yeah, that’s kinda where I’m at. I also don’t think the team would have bothered to sign him if they didn’t think he had a better than average chance to make the team.

Ideally I would want to upgrade a rotation spot with a 2 for 1 deal but I don't see that happening with the season just about to start. I will be very livid if we cut Wood for Johnson. I think Johnson could be a good locker room leader but I think Wood could be a really nice steal for us and we desperately need him to backup the center position. Maker proved he can't play center and Morris should be backing up Griffin.

Wood has been passed around like a doobie for a reason.

So was Chauncey and then everything clicked.

In no way am I suggesting Wood will become a finals MVP but if he became the next Dewayne Dedmon, I’d be thrilled.

Exactly. Wood deserves a shot in the regular season to prove himself whether that means earning regular minutes or getting cut.

It would be so typical to cut him then he’ll go to his next team and have a break out season and we look like chumps...again.

Fingers crossed for a Galloway trade.

The latest Free Press article makes it sound like they're leaning heavily towards keeping Joe Johnson at Woods expense :nonono:

Yeah but that was written by Vince Ellis. That guy is by far the worst beat writer of any of the 4 sports teams in town. Dude knows no more than your average realgm poster.

Beasley?

It blows my mind Detroit or really any of the other teams that have cut Wood keep doing this to keep some of the scrubs they do with zero upside. Seriously it's even a discussion that you'd guys would rather keep a 38 year old well below replacement level player that played in the Big 3 last year than a guy that is 24 years old and completely wrecked the Gleauge last year like no one probably ever has before and and averaged 17ppg and 9rpg in only 23.5 minutes, 24 PER when he got a chance to play in New Orleans.

It blows my mind how this is even on the table. He's should be your best big and in a 25 minute a game role off the bench getting very minute Drummond or Griffin don't play and as insurance for Griffin's injury history. He's that good.

That’s my first reaction too but I feel like Galloway $7M expiring contract might come in handy for trade purposes.

Am I thinking about this wrong? If he was dealt for a 2nd round pick would the team get a trade exception for his full amount?

I voted Galloway, I hope that they eat his contract. (Yes I’d prefer a 2 for 1 trade, i just can’t see one that makes sense). He also doesn’t really bring anything to the team.
