Why is local press coverage of the Pistons so bad?

3 games into the preseason I try to find articles on the 'stones from local media outlets.

Visiting mlive.com I find pages and pages of articles on the lions, wings, and college football teams. Nothing on the pistons in the feed. Nada.

Detnews.com? Absolutely nothing on the sports page. If I click on the Pistons link there it leads to A BROKEN PAGE. Cmon man! :)

freep.com? Again, nothing on the sports page. Clicking on the Pistons link there leads to one of the most depressing collages of articles I can remember seeing. You'd think after 2 comeback wins and the fact that this is the preseason that there would be a *shred* of optimism -- however unfounded it might end up being. It's the preseason for goodness sake!

W.t.f.

So, did you pay for a subscription to any of those? If not, well, I guess you have your answer.

So I have to pay a subscription to those three websites to see Pistons content but don't to see content for the Lions, Red Wings, or college football?

Because we are a legitimate treadmill team and have been bad for over a decade, and press coverage is driven by interest. Even some of the worse teams have a better fan outlook because they have the hope of lucking out in the draft/have a core of young players to develop.

Shred of optimism? Are you from Detroit, where the weak are killed and eaten? Heck, our greatest coach was nicknamed the "Prince of Pessimism". "For real" winning (and no, preseason doesn't count) fixes the news coverage. Nothing else will. I'm fine with that.

Yes. You have to pay. Journalists can't work for free. You either need to have a big enough base that the online ads pay for the reporting or individual readers have to pay. If you don't have enough paying customers, the newspaper fires the full time beat reporters. It's happening at newspapers across the country.

There's a lot here, and you definitely don't need a subscription. I don't read mlive so I didn't bother checking.

Main problem I have with the sports coverage is that their interviews and videos of the players are usually terrible.

Only they have access. I can write stories all day. They get to meet the players. Take a video of everyone that will let you. Im sure bench would LOVE an interview. They will give them in an instant. Bandwidth is CHEAP these days. Its just laziness and guys who are "journalists" that dont know how to use a computer very well. It should be a prerequisite for the job.

I feel lucky in a way; I don't give a hoot about interviews with players or coaches. Very rarely is there anything of substance in them IMO.
