Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores signals he is open to new direction for franchise

I asked the Pistons owner late Thursday night if he was OK with taking a step back if it meant better results than challenging for the last spot in the playoffs on a yearly basis.

“We probably have to take some chances with some of the young guys, but absolutely,” Gores said. “That’s what we’re aspiring to – something bigger than what we’ve been doing, but I haven’t lost faith in what (Pistons coach Dwane Casey) is doing and how we’re developing the players and our future.”

...

Q: It’s a month before the trade deadline, where are you at philosophically? Are to the point where considering in another direction with another group of players?

Gores: “We have to look at everything because we’re not winning so if you’re not winning, you have to assess everything “I think anybody would want to do that and probably in the next month or so, we’re going to get together as an organization and just discuss things.”

I honestly think Gores saw this team and finally realized getting the 8 seed isn't worth it. Thats why I think Sekou is playing now. I think Gores told Casey to not worry about winning and to play the young guys. Doubt we get to 30 wins this year.

Last night Wood looked better than Dre and has been a lot of nights since Wood has been playing back up C. I think we try and trade Dre or make him a lowball offer to where he walks in the offseason

I also think we get a top 3 pick this year

Let’s hope this turned on the light at the end of the tunnel.

Imagine if we hit on Sekou and then on a top 3 pick.

That would be so much more exciting to watch on a nightly basis than what’s going on now.

Did these words actually come out of Gores’ mouth? It’s hard to believe. Maybe he’s sober for the first time since he bought the team?

Yea, then we would be only a couple of years behind Atlanta, maybe more if they sign Drummond as has been rumoured.

It’s actually pretty ambiguous what he said in context to what he was asked.

Ambiguous is an improvement over the “we’re really close, just keep building” attitude we’ve been subjected to.

I’ll get excited when a move is made and not a moment sooner.

From the same press availability, this new direction would still have Drummond in it long term. So...

The hawks arent moving Collins to get Drummond.

Anything we get back is good for us but it sure as hell wont be either Trae or Collins.

Spoiler:
There's literally zero chance they're trading Trae or Collins

I think the best we would get is a overhyped reddish and filler for expiring. Possibly addition by subtraction knowing we wouldn’t any longer resign him. Thank baby Jesus.

I'm fine with this, but it better as hell include a pick of some kind, period. No pick, suck it Atlanta.

I've prepared myself for a no-good-enough-offers end to this.

Honestly, I'd be quite fine with a simple Parsons/Nets 1st for Drummond deal.

Any 1st round pick is a welcomed asset for this team, and there would be no remaining money left on the books after April 15. Also that trade would open up $2mil of luxury tax wiggle room which would provide increased trade flexibility options for additional moves like trading Galloway.

In addition it makes the team worse for the rest of the season, thus improving their own pick. Also, gives the keys to Christian Wood to see what he can do with a featured role.

At least try to get Reddish. He sucks but would give us something back. Would be value of getting back a late 1st early 2nd type thing for us
