The New York Knicks have expressed interest in Andre Drummond, but there has been no traction at this point with the Detroit Pistons.
The Pistons are seeking a package of draft picks and young players for Drummond.
The Knicks have seven draft picks over the next two years, but they're "in no rush to get off any of those draft picks," reports Shams Charania.
Drummond can become a free agent this coming offseason.
The question is who would you want from the Knicks?

If Dre is traded it will be to a contender for ROS value and to acquire his FBR's. A bad team with more than max cap space this off-season makes no real sense to be trading for him.

Dre’s skin is way too thin to succeed in New York’s media environment.

More I think about it Boston seems the logical place for Dre.
They can't sign him outright this off-season...wonder what they could offer?

They make a lot of sense in terms of their teams needs.
The problem is that they have no expendable large salaries. A deal would have to include either Hayward or Smart, and they don't seem to want to do that. Hawks are the opposite problem. Perfect assets to make them a good trade fit for us, but why do they want him, let alone want him now?

Yeah I looked and Boston have nothing in the way of contracts to give.
As for the Hawks you can argue that with all those rookie contracts they can afford Dre, even at a inflated price.
Giving up Parsons, Turner, Crabbe, Len or some combo of that group plus the Brooklyn pick seems like a pretty good deal on their end assuming Dre agrees to stay beyond this season.

Drummond would be an unmitigated disaster in NYC. No stable PG play, way too many distractions, and a far-less-friendly media that would roast his dumb ass on a daily basis.
But it's the Knicks, so anything is possible.

https://tradenba.com/trades/w6yBGNQw3If Knicks want to keep their picks, take Sekou's friend off their hands plus promising Robinson, with vets to make salaries matching.
We become:
ROBINSON/Gibson/Morris
GRIFFIN/Doumbouya/Morris
MORRIS/Doumbouya/Mykhailiuk
KENNARD/Mykhailiuk/Brown
NTILIKINA/Rose/Frazier
Next: trade Snell, Jackson and Galloway
Knicks become:
DRUMMOND/Maker
RANDLE/Portis
KNOX/Bullock/Dotson
BARRETT/Trier/Ellington
PAYTON/Smith
Next: they draft a young PG and backup C as they kept their draft picks

Drummond, who was born in Mount Vernon, New York, grew up rooting for the Knicks, according to James Edwards III of The Athletic. But the star center was adamant about his desire to stay with the Pistons in an interview with ESPN's Nick Friedell last week.
"If I start somewhere, I try to finish there, try to complete the mission, which is to win a championship here," the 26-year-old said. "It will never be me that wants to go anywhere ... I love being here (in Detroit). I would love to play here the rest of my career."
So Dre wants to win a championship in Detroit. I wonder what kind of salary would lure him away. Probably something like

If Dre wants to win here he'd give a hometown discount - he's using fake loyalty to try and get fanbase on his side go he can leverage Gores for a near max deal. If he wanted to be here he could have extended.
So Ainge wants something for nothing. Par for the course with Boston. I wouldn't take Hayward for Dre given the forer is much more likley to opt in and owed 32M next season. Just let Dre walk in that case. It would take a couple FRP's to take on that extra year for Dre.

NYK will offer the best facing saving move. NYK traded Porzingis for DSJ and picks, now they're looking for a total PG reboot and have completely soured on DSJ. Detroit can sell fans on him being the big score and on how Casey and Rose will mentor him to reach his potential here and how he's matured blah, blah, blah.
Trade Machine says DSJ and Randle work straight up for Dre. Shaves 4M off of Detroit's cap, giving them breathing room for any other tweaks/trades. Maybe get a second rounder for the pick portion or something.
Can Randle play center? I've always been intrigued from afar with him, but NYK fans already seem tired of him and LAL let him walk, Pellies let him go, and now Knicks...
Trade machine also says a three way trade with Randle going to Sacto and Dedmon coming here would be legal and work. So Dre for DSJ and Dedmon and we shave $10M off our cap - leaving us $10M under the cap to be able to use the Blake DPE if we wanted to - say a tax team wanted to give up a FRP to shave off 10M expiring player.
Frank N could be included instead of DSJ if that was Detroit's preference.

Frank N is basically alot like Brown at the point to me. DSJ is kind of a ball hog but is explosive with dunks and such. Not sure which one i would take, maybe DSJ just to have something a little different.

Good grief seeing these trades is hurting my head. I don't want any of the players mentioned. Just picks man.
I mean honestly, does anyone here want any of these players?
Barf.

The problem is that the Knicks have publicly said they’re not trading picks.
They could backpeddle on that but it’s why you’re seeing proposals without them.

How many picks do they have? I'm sure if they wanted Andre badly enough we could coax them out of at least one 1st.
Is it reasonable to trade Andre for no picks?
I really don't want another teams trash for a 2 time all-star, leagues best rebounder, and all-NBA player. That's what Andre is and I dont think it's crazy to expect at least a late first round pick in any deal. Hell, it can be a future first for all I care.
I just don't want to give Casey any players that he thinks will help him win now.
