Absolutely crazy news. I'm frankly stunned that he goes away like this and so young too.

His daughter was supposedly on the heli too so it's a damn messy tragedy.

Definitely was in denial when it was just TMZ reporting it.

I’m heartbroken for that family. His daughter was a hooper too. She was the child of his that was excelling on the court. Thought I’d see her play in the WNBA some day. Sad day. What a horrible tragedy.

Completely gutted. Love him or hate him, he represented this game with all of his heart. My heart breaks for Vanessa, his children and the families of the other passengers.

The strange part is realizing that the “larger than life” aura we intuitively attach to celebrities isn’t a protective veil; they’re subject to the same threats we all are for the most part.

Horrible story. RIP

No HoF speech, no more insightful interviews or shows on ESPN, no more inspirational posts, no more wholesome moments with other players. It still doesn't feel real.

I obviously didn't know Kobe personally like many of the people grieving for him, but man he really touched my life. As a kid scared to even hold onto the ball for more than 2 seconds much less shoot it, I watched the raw ferocity and passion he played with and idolized him. He is a huge part of what made me fall in love with basketball in the first place. I wanted to BE Kobe.

Where other players would just fold and accept that their team just wasn't having a strong night in a blow out, Kobe would downright try to will his team to the finish line by himself. My favorite Kobe game was from a year before Pau arrived. It was late as hell on a school night on TNT, and the Lakers were down 20+ in the 2nd quarter. Everyone on the lakers looked super lethargic and disinterested, but not Kobe. With a dazzling display of acrobatic finishes and off balance jumpers he slowly but surely brought them back en route to scoring 50 in double OT, and iced the game at the line as the MVP chants came pouring in. It's far from his best game or most well known, but it personifies the kind of player he was and is my fondest memory of him.

I really couldn't believe this one. Such a tragedy for that family. It'lltake a while for it to really sink in. All star weekend is going to be really strange.

Still haven't totally processed this.

I was really looking forward to what retirement Kobe was doing -- one of the most articulate ballers ever, right up there with Kareem and Dr. J, and listening to him speak was ALWAYS interesting. Such a tragedy, and for the family to lose their eldest child, too, is heartbreaking.

Man still at a loss for words. Just terrible. Stayed up all night watching teams pay tribute. Players, coaches, etc. Just the king of the era i grew up watching.

I was only in the 5th grade when 9/11 happened so i clearly didnt fully grasp what had happened. Man the feeling of hearing Kobe Bryant dying in a helicopter crash had to be awful close to the feeling that day.
