Drummond Appreciation Thread
5 coaches. 7 years. 1 of two all stars this team had in the past decade. Best Rebounder in the NBA. Some of y’all seem to hate him, but he was an exemplary guy for a city that no one wants to play for.

Re: Drummond Appreciation Thread
Really hard to believe this is how it ends. I was a huge Drummond supporter since before we even drafted him. For better or worse, hes' the best Piston this decade and definitely our franchise player who should have been so much more. Even after accepting that Andre had to go, I find it incredibly tough to swallow and depressing this is all we could get. I should be happy that it's full steam ahead on the tank but this really hurts.

Re: Drummond Appreciation Thread
For all of his faults and deficiencies, I appreciate what Drummond did for this franchise. He stuck with us and said all the right things (for better or worse), and appeared to genuinely like being a Piston. While I'm glad that this (hopefully) is the signal for the LONG OVERDUE rebuild, it's tough to see someone who has been the face of the franchise for the most part go.

What a whiny tweet Dre just put out. You got a max contract from the Pistons dude. They don't owe you anything

Re: Drummond Appreciation Thread
he did give a lot to the franchise. he seemed to genuinely like all his teammates, liked the city and tried to improve every offseason. he was also willing to stick it out in detroit and try to win as a piston, which is commendable. he provided a ton of highlights throughout the years and had his share of monster games.
it's just a shame that he never had the bball IQ/maturity or whatever you want to call it to be a franchise player - which is what his salary calls for. i hope he doesn't sign in cleveland long-term and realizes that taking a smaller role (and salary) would give him a better chance to play for playoff teams.

I haven't got any appreciation. This is a guy who was paid top dollar and entrusted with the franchise tag, and in response he never worked hard and never played how his team needed. He pouted and lazed about and took innumerable games off. He wouldn't stick to what he was good at or the role his team asked of him. I respect professionals who play hard and play right. He did neither. The problem was him.

Re: Drummond Appreciation Thread
We've treated him as a franchise player and paid him like a star and most nights he acts like he could care less.
I appreciate everything hes done and its been a long relationship but sucks he couldnt just have the motor to actually dominate like i thought he would develop into originally

Bye, Dre. You could have been so much more with a better head on your shoulders. I appreciate the work you put in to improve your free throws, and you do have some of the best hands on a big I’ve ever seen. A true man-child, though, and unless you grow up, you’re never going to win anything in this league.

This sucks, I mean really sucks. This team has one player that says he wants to be here and you trade him. Then on top of that, you trade him with zero return. I'm really thinking about becoming a Rockets fan.

If Dre reached his maximum potential here, instead of making the playoffs twice, we would have made the playoffs........three times at best. Even Anthony Davis only made the playoffs like twice in New Orleans with crap around him. The biggest problem has always been the rest of the roster.
People who look at his salary and blame it as a reason this team couldn't improve is only spitting a nonsense cliche. Call him overpaid or whatever, I can get with that. But acting like you can't win with competent pieces around him is idiotic and played out.

Re: Drummond Appreciation Thread
A few nights each year he is a beast out there. He just didn't go hard enough on a regular basis to really ever make us a good team. If he signs this summer with a team where he has a good PG that can create easy baskets for him and he continues to work on his defense and knows his role we will probably feel like we gave him away for too little.
After so much losing I was 100% ready to move on. He isn't a winner I'd rather have 5 guys like Bruce Brown and Christian Wood than Drummond out there. Coach Casey coming out talking about his selfishness and SVG saying how he was too "worried about his brand" are two respected coaches in the NBA that felt like he wasn't about winning and that along with what I've seen over the years makes me know the worst case scenario was to resign Dre for big bucks. We had to change things up.

How do you get him too quit thinking hes a main option and a star though? His IQ just hurts him, he literally scores everything at the rim and is still one of the most inefficient bigs there.

I'll miss Andre Drummond the person, but won't miss Andre Drummond the player.
I met him 7 or 8 times, and he was always nice/personable and gracious to fans.

I never wanted Drummond on this team, having him as the "superstar" was one of the main reason's we have been mired in mediocrity for so long and a large reason as to why I quit this team.

Re: Drummond Appreciation Thread
Andre played with Blake having an all-pro season and the team was the 8th seed in the East.
Which team is Dre going to make better, with his $25 million a year salary?
Most teams will moneyball the C position and are looking some either elite defense or 3pt shooting at the 5. Andre offers none of that.

I thought this was supposed to be an appreciation thread but inevitably it's turned into a 'bash those folks who don't think that Dre was a piece of Pistons' future success' thread.
I don't think anyone is saying that if Dre were surrounded by competent starters and a good bench that we wouldn't win games. But you'd also win games with an absolutely average center surrounded by competent starters. And pay a lot less for it. You even sort of imply the fact that Dre is overpaid for the value he returns.
Lack of available money to spend is a big reason for that dearth of talent. Dre therefore contributes to that problem with his salary. (and yes, he's definitely not the only one) So I don't really know what you want DetroitSho.
The only way this team will succeed is by making a concerted effort to maximize the value you get for the money you spend on players. Dre's 2021 salary and implied contract demands for beyond don't fit with that definition.
He's not going to be the only one this happens to. RJ (unless he takes a big paycut) and LG are gone this offseason; Snell next offseason and Blake the one after that.
This will be the only post I make here as I think furthering this line of discussion veers us farther away from this thread's intended purpose.
