KCP is doing a halftime interview in the NBA Finals.....

Who cares about him, it's not like hes anything significant we lost. He's just along for the ride to a title so congrats to him.

Yeah, global pandemic, economic recession, political turmoil, racial inequality, a player who used to play for the Pistons appearing in the finals.

These are all peas in the same pod.

Dude is a bit player and us forcing that square peg into a round hole is symptomatic of this organisation!

At his best he's a #4 option but we're gonna give him $20 mil a year like he's a star?

KCP left about $35m on the table when he turned down the Pistons offer of 4yr $80m.

In 2020 the Pistons could have done a massive extension for Dre, or they could have kept Dre for one more year @ $28m. KCP could be on the Pistons payroll for another $20m next season. The new GM could have been a retread or an unqualified yes man.

Things could have been much worse in 2020.

Let’s make this simple. KCP turned down 4 and 80, so let’s say he stays at 4 and 90. He’s a van Gundy guy, so is Blake, Drummond, Reggie is one as well. Less likely to cut his picks as soon like Ellenson. So the band is all together. If we don’t add arm tellem to the team, Derrick Rose probably signs elsewhere.

So Stan sticks around at least one more season and for what? Basically the same season by season outcomes.

It was funny. During the interview I was asking myself "The Pistons offered this guy 4/20 per?"

When answering a question about what he needed to do it was "I just need to hit my shots".

Ironically he was drafted for that very reason and never really lived up to it as a Piston. His numbers as a Laker show he's still not great at it. Definitely not worth 20 million a year. The reason he's in the Finals is because the Lakers rightfully chose to spend their money elsewhere and he could be had for cheap.

Congrats on being cheap fodder to fill out a rotation KCP. You've earned it!

If we're being honest, KCP is one of better guys to have around as your 4th best player on a contender, but sadly 3nD wings get big money so it's hard to build around that when he's getting a hypothetical 20 million per year.

He does everything you want him to do, just hit shots and play honest defense. When you watch him, he still does his usual streaky KCP BS but he really boosted their spacing last night especially early on

That's who he always was, a championship level role player.
Cant overpay them but you gotta have them.

I always like KCP, just no leadership on the Pistons for him to fall in line. Happy he found a qualified organization.

Hopefully Troy can rebuild Detroit basketball with real actual Pistons basketball players.

Isaac Okoro/Devin Vassell would be a nice start.

Bingo. KCP's ego saved the Pistons from yet another giant Van Gundy error. There was no fashion in which he deserved that offer, particularly after the rotten season he'd just had. He'd absolutely failed to develop to expectations.

Van Gundy would ultimately go on to become obsessed with Avery Bradley, KCP's replacement, to the severe detriment of the team's performance.

To be fair guys like KCP & AB are valuable on contending teams.

As per usual though we miscast guys or land the role players first (usually good role players too) but haven't had the big guns we needed to actually win games.

KCP as the 3rd/4th guy on a team full of them? Great idea.

KCP as the 3rd/4th guy on a team without the horses before him or alongside him? Not gonna work and didn't.

Not because KCP sucked but simply because we didn't have a roster capable of keeping him in his lane.

KCP and Bradley are valuable as affordable role players on teams with superstar talents. On other teams, with bigger roles, they're treadmill players. I realize you've more or less said the same.

For the record, KCP was not good with the Pistons. He was a horribly inconsistent, trigger-happy and altogether bad shooter who never developed, and he was a pretty good off-ball defender but an indifferent on-ball stopper. He was looked to as a starting shooting guard, but (as you've said) he's not good enough to play that role unless he's in a very secondary role alongside superstar scorers. With the Lakers, alongside LeBron, he sticks to his role. Like Jackson, Bradley, and Morris, he was given almost completely free reign under Van Gundy. The results were bad, just as they were with the other three.

Van Gundy somehow managed to assemble successive starting rosters of #3-or-worse scorers and toss the Pistons into cap prison in the process. Quite an achievement. KCP's ego kept it from becoming even worse.

He isn't the third-best player on that team. The lineup amounts to AD, LeBron, and a bunch of guys with roughly equivalent value.

Moreover, the takes on KCP have gotten more than just a little hot: through the first three games of the finals, he had shot 25% from three and 28% from the field. Though he had a good game four, he's still had an awful series on the whole.

Happy for KCP no hate from me always thought he was a good 3&D guy.
