Sekou must deserve his minutes, he was a 15th pick, not a 1st overall.

Our 4 first rounders from the last 2 years are literally the only remotely promising players we have left and the only reason to tune in to this team.

“Earned” or not, a bottom 5-10 team must play the kids no matter how ugly it gets. This is not a playoff contender that can afford to spend draft picks on guys and not find out what they can do when given time to make mistakes.

If we aren’t prepared to do that we gotta stop drafting these unpolished 18/19 year olds. They don’t become NBA players by watching from the sidelines.

Nuked the roster in a week!

We're racing to the bottom while taking shots at Musa, Wright, Okafor, Bradley + Sekou, Bey, Stewart, Hayes etc

But it's the Grant & Plumlee deals that are the issue? Have at it.

While at the same time he nuked all of the cap flexibility Detroit would of had in 2021, while also bringing in expensive veterans on long term deals to bury every young player on the roster. Oh an he also gave up FIVE future picks in order to do so.

Presti is nuking his roster as well, yet he seems to understand that getting draft picks in return is somehow better than signing low level free agents to expensive 3 year contracts.

Denver Signs JaMychal Green for 2 years/$15 mil to replace Grant.

Green isn't that big of a downgrade, yet he comes at a fraction of the cost.

I just don't understand how Grant is planning on expanding his role on offense. He looks awful on offense doing anything outside of shooting catch and shoot jumpers or getting out in transition

I am already thinking of teams willing to trade for Grant in February or the next summer:
- Miami Heat: Leonard and Olynik
- Nets (If Harden does not end up there)
- Mavs
- Jazz
- Blazers
- Wolves
- Pacers

I see plenty of potential destinations. We should not be worried about this signing. A little bit overpaid of course but easy to trade.

We’ve heard this before. Now that he comes to the Pistons where our offense is stagnant and poorly spaced, with no Jokic to feed him open shots, it is very unlikely that he is going to have a “good” year.

The chances that this contract looks worse come midseason than it does right now are high. Maybe someone would trade for him, but probably not with much of an asset coming back.

I have no idea what Weaver is doing. I actually like Grant as a player, but this is nuts. Back on the treadmill

Looks like Weaver went into full Pistons mode after the draft.
20M for Jerami Grant? Pistons still doing Pistons things. :banghead: :banghead:

Edit: Hope Weaver can move Blake soon without adding any additional dead weight.

Grant will be tradeable.... in 2023 at the trade deadline

Grant can pretty much plug into any playoff team's closing 5. He's pretty tempting for a team that thinks they're on the cusp and have money tied up in a bad fit or an underperforming contract.

Some possible contracts we may be able to get picks out of:

Celtics - Kemba 34/3
Brooklyn - LaVert 16/3
Pacers - Brogdon 20/3, Sabonis 19/4, Turner 18/3
Miami - Olynyk 12/1 + Crowder 7/1
Bucks - Bledsoe 16/3, Middleton 33/4
Magic - Gordon 19/2, Fournier 17/3
Philly - Danny Green 14/2
Toronto - Ibaka 23/1
Dallas - Hardaway Jr 18/1
GSW - Draymond 22/4, Wiggins 29/3
Houston - Eric Gordon 16/4
Clippers - PG 35/2
Portland - CJ 27/5
Sac - Barnes 24/4
San Antonio - Gay 14/2, Aldridge 26/2, Derozan 27/2
Jazz - Gobert 23/3

I may be able to get the angle that we’re setting us up to make a big Grant trade come Feb but this is a bit much considering all the relative busts and middling vets we signed leading up to all of this.

Weaver has to pray that this weird roster somehow works and we’re slightly more competitive than last year. There’s a high chance of it being a big bust and everyone becomes non tradable

The Plumlee signing to go with 60 other plodding centers that no one else wants eliminates ANY possibility that there is “chess” being played here. Especially hilarious that it took so much odd salary cap maneuvering to land this “haul”.

Long before the draft and free agency ever started it was clear that the only possible positive outcome from the 2020-2021 season was to develop young players and end up with a high pick. There were no moves to be made to propel this team toward even being a middling playoff team.

This should have been so easy for Weaver. Trade anyone of value that wasn’t a part of the future for assets that WILL help us in the future. Bring in a few vets either on short deals or by absorbing their salaries (with picks) from teams trying to clear space. Set the roster up to play some of these 1st round picks serious minutes and let the ping pong balls flow through your veins.

Pretty much. This plus re-signing Wood. The plan should have been simple

Yeah, signing Wood would have been great. I won’t blame Weaver for this much though since I get the feeling Wood didn’t want to come back here. If it comes out that Weaver wouldn’t match that $$$ there are obviously no excuses.

I’d throw Casey in on the blame as well given his antagonistic approach with Wood and Kennard. Coaches with bigger egos than the players are a bad idea. How many players can he hold grudges with?

That’s the shame of this. I also like Grant as a player. If the Pistons were a few years into a patient rebuild process (with highly drafted talent to show for it) and with Blake’s deal off the books, I would have had no issue with them signing a player like Grant. But the timing of this is wrong.

The Grant signing has one minor problem:
- Money

And 2 potential big problems:
- Playing Grant full time as SF
- Playing Sekou full time as SF

I assume that Plumlee signing was more Casey's idea. He might want some experienced who might help him with the young kids.

Again, I see no drama in our moves. We are gonna be Top5 in the next draft.

Teams that look worse than us: Knicks

Even the Thunder look better than us.

I see Grant and Mo Harkless as similar players. Grant had a nice exposure run with Denver in the playoffs this year, while Harkless, who was having a nice season, got screwed by LAC when they signed Marcus Morris at the deadline. Nonetheless, quite similar players.

To see that Harkless just signed with the Heat for $3.6 mil made me go numb for a minute. Unreal.
