You mean strategically incompetent. This is ameteur hour to be stuck in this position. At least SVG inheried the Josh Smith situation. Weaver created the mess in 48 hours. Remind me why we took on Bradley only to take a guard at 38 we are putting on a 2 way contract??? wtf.

Also now that Woods is being put in the Ariza deal, that looks like a complete steal for the Rockets. They dump a salary, get a young stud and we end up giving them a 1sr rounder on top of it.

We after getting the prime asset in Luke for the 19th are we also giving 4 2nd round picks AND taking on McGruder $5M.

This is pathetic work by our GM...

Hey, that one is easy. Players on two-way contracts don't count on the cap sheet and if you envision the guy playing a ton in the G-League then it makes sense. Especially for Lee who is going to need some refining. He'll get called up a few times this season no doubt but a two-way isn't a bad idea here.

Why draft him at 38 in the first place is the better question. The athleticism and frame are there. Not sure his style translates though.

The ineptitude of this franchise is pretty mind blowing at this point.

Often I could at least understand the mindset. They were short-sighted, but trying to win-now. Always misguided and poorly executed, but I could see what they were TRYING to do. This slew of offseason moves has been the most chaotic and nonsensical that I can remember in a long time.

So we take on tons of salary in by stretching Dedmon/taking on Ariza

We give up a future 1st and 4 2nd rounders, Kennard, Brown

All so we could sign Mason farxing Plumlee (for basically what Wood is getting paid) and Jerami Grant (12 pts / 3 boards last year)

Seriously F*S@K@TIOT#OT#TI@#JT the Pistons

These team hasn't been worth of the time I've put into it for years and years now. Yet nevertheless I persist.

Why, I'll never know.

At this point the common denominator is gores. He won’t take or rebuild properly.

I dunno, maybe.

The Weaver/Grant connection has me suspicious.

Is this the worst offseason Detroit has had in the post-Billups era?

I’ll reserve judgement until we have a core of Hayes, bey, cunningham, bates, sekou, and Stewart

Question- As far as these stretch releases of Dedmon & McGruder, we're off the hook once they sign elsewhere, right? They're both going to land somewhere.

I believe we're on the hook for the stretch no matter what they do.

Pistons will continue to be not good enough to be contenders and not bad enough to get a top draft pick as long as Gores is the owner.

I thought i might be able to get back behind this team when it looked like we would finally rebuild, but now I see we're right back on the treadmill as usual.

Not completely but I do think a percentage of their stretch money comes off our number depending on what they make each of the next five years.

Stretching Dedmon over keeping him and not signing Plumlee is the biggest head-scratcher for me. I guess it's a $5M difference in salary and every dollar counts.

Salary off-set from what I can find is next yearly salary minus one year vet minimum / 2

So if Dedmon signs 5M contract somewhere, Detroit would save 2M from their stretch payment.

How much is Dedmon worth the next five years? Does he play five more years in the league. If so I think at worse Detroit will save $1M in off-set.

Is Plumlee dramatically better than Dedman?

I fail to see any logic in killing 5 years of cap space, swapping out Dedman for Plumlee and largely being in the same place financially this year for the slight upgrade. Just put Dedman in the spot for 1 year then the contract is gone.

I was wrong - the stretch provision is offset by some of the stretched player's salary when he signs with a new team. I believe the reduction is half of the difference between the player's new salary and a calculated amount for a player with one year's experience, divided by two.

Unlike Josh Smith, both Dedmon and McGruder have value enough to get decent contracts over these five years, making the stretch potentially much smaller.
