Been watching film on him most of the day. He is a player that has a TON of potential. Potential to be great, not just a role player. Absolutely love this signing. He’s talented enough to play shooting guard too. Watch him. He can handle the rock enough at the two. He has a ton of sides to his game, and he even has defensive potential.

If he can keep his head on straight, he seems like a Detroit Piston to me.

In my opinion; him, Harry Giles,and a few others have real shots at becoming assets after being afterthoughts for their careers so far.

If he has matured and realized he'll be out if he doesn't shape up. I mean the talent is there. It's always been there. Now he just needs to put the work in.

I would imagine seeing your peers from your draft class land $160+ million contract extensions such as Tatum, Fox, & Mitchell would make you want to get your **** together and go out and earn your own big contract.

It's hard to expect many players who lose their way to find a successful path, as so many become marginal and disappear. With maturity coming later for some, it is possible though. Jackson's 23, still a very young man who can play. I hope he's one of those who pull it off.

Best free agent signing by a landslide. The type that a rebuilding team short on overall talent should make, and a player many of us were specifically targeting.

I'm having cold sweats reading through this thread, flashing back to the last 8 years I spent listening to people tell me how young Drummond is and how much potential he has. F that. Age doesn't matter. Draft scouting reports don't matter. It's what you've put on tape the last 3 years that matters.

He's been in the league 3 years now, and to say he's a bust doesn't cover it. He's been terrible. I'm cool with giving him a few minutes here & there to see if he forces us to take a closer look. But I have no interest in gifting him significant minutes based on the player he was supposed to be. He's not that player. Send him to the g league.

The guy has talent, and he produces all over the floor. He has all-nba potential.

Problem with Jackson is that he, much like a lot of other "potential" guys, is that he seems limited mentally, doesn't know how to focus, and seemingly wants to enjoy the fruits of what he could become, not what he actually has become.

Unfortunately, after having seen so many people like him before, the odds of him putting it all together seem very slim. Could be a great asset to the team landing the 4th overall pick in the 2017 draft, but unless he tries to become a better human being, becoming more well rounded, thoughtful and educated, he will keep making the same life mistakes, and acting as if he is the world's greatest.

The Pistons have been a home for wayward folks before, and some(Billups, Wallace&Wallace)have become champions after having grown up, and taken life more seriously.

Let's see how Josh pans out but the odds are stacked against him.

With the roster how it is, the upcoming season will likely see him buried in the rotation.

good news is that the adolescent brain becomes fully developed at age 25.

We had a successful 25 year maturation process with Christian Wood, so hopefully we can see something similar with Josh if he cuts down the drugs.

Its funny how they want to bring in "high character" guys but give Josh Jackson a contract.

He’s a talented kid who was humbled in the trade from the Suns to the Grizzlies. And very much to the Grizzlies credit, they made him earn his way on to an NBA floor again. Given the opportunity, he showed some of the talent that made him a lottery pick there. For the Pistons, I could see some parallels with this signing as with Christian Wood. Casey needs to put structure around him and hold him accountable. And he needs to continue to show maturity and put the work in. The good news is that beyond Jackson, they seemed to have drafted and signed a bunch of hard workers, so he’ll be the odd man out if he isn’t committed to doing things the right way.

Admittedly, I don’t know enough about Okafor these days to know if he falls into the high character, hard working camp or not. I know that he had maturity / character issues during his time in Philly, but haven’t heard about any issues since.

Although they will be the moves less talked about, the signing of Jackson and Okafor are the ones a rebuilding team should be doing. They guys were very high picks who can in the league young and did not work out for various reasons. They both have some high end talent and sometimes it takes a couple falls to fix what needs to be fixed. Nothing to lose at the contract values they signed for.

While I thought Weaver got the the lesser end of the draft day trades, I at least understood the strategy if Weaver truly believes those are the guys who will take the Pistons to the promise land.

He's been described as 'talented but troubled,' and 'immature.' Kind of like Wood last year, and more so in that after having been uneven had a strong finish for their last team. He does have Michigan family. Low cost and commitment for an excellent physical talent who might put it together? Seems reasonable, but I'm not recommending betting the house. Stories like this are part of what makes following a team fun, and the kind of chance a team like our current Pistons ought to be taking.
