I’m not even trying to guess as why

So this is why Pistons have to stretch waive, aka "Weaver", Zhaire Smith?

Given the veteran Ellington, wouldn't it make more sense to **** McGruder?

Weaver going all-in on the playoffs this season.

With Ellington, we become contenders....

...for the 8th seed, maybe

I was so happy when we didn’t bring him back last off season. Wtf is this...

Ed was so much more efficient with FAs last year

Shake my damn head.

Keep burying the kids deeper, Troy

Is that the vet minimum?

Fair enough we lack guard depth but I'd rather have Smith.

I'm aware you can't just have a entire locker room of kids but with Rose, Blake & Plumlee we don't need another vet

That is the 10yr+ vets minimum (assuming Woj rounded up).

If this team is ever a winner again it's going to be completely on accident.

Oof. Bad move if he actually gets decent minutes. Hopefully just trade fodder for a contender at the deadline, or another throw-in for the inevitable Blake deal.

As a rabid Kanye West fan, sticking up for Troy Weaver is starting to feel eerily similar...

A lockerroom/character guy it seems.

Other than McGruder all the wings are 21-23, so I see this as a mentoring role while adding some offense. Another movable piece if needed but the roster and cap are getting overloaded. Probably more moves to come.

Hoping the idea here is to have some vets remaining once Blake/Rose are gone.

While its a different team now, its worth noting that Dwane Casey gave Ellington 27 MPG while he was in Detroit in 18-19

Completely different team and situation.

Dre, Blake, Reggie 8th seed or bust mode

Agreed, but its worth mentioning that Ellington was directly blocking Brown & Kennard at the time.

I personally don't trust Casey to commit to a full on youth movement.

Ellington is a pretty marginal NBA player, but at least we're paying him like one and at least it's only one year.

I realize it's fun to be negative about everything, but this ones' a nothing-burger, guys.

I'd be surprised if he gets big minutes.

Great pick up for the cost. Not a great fit with the team.

I still think its going to be a LONG season of back to backs. Having bodies to throw around will be important. Especially with 2 weeks of training camp to get ready for those 5 games in 7 nights.

If hes a good locker room guy, great.

Could this team win games? I dont think so.

DRose
Ellington
Sekou/Bey
Griffin (if he can play)
Grant/Plumlee

Still a bad team unless Griffin started getting vampire treatments.
