Has anyone here bought a car in Canada and brought it to the U.S.? If so, what was your experience like?

Outside of the fact that the sales tax in Ontario is 7.75% and Michigan’s is 6%, if the car was manufactured anywhere other than Canada, the US or Mexico, you’d have to pay an additional 2.5% duty.

In simple terms, who the hell would do that and why?

2021 Chevy Blazer LT in Sarnia $31,118 + 7.5% Tax = $33,452 Canadian which is $26,159 USD
2021 Chevy Blazer LT in Port Huron $30,286 + 6% Tax = $32,103 USD

Seems like a major win to buy in Canada as long as there isn't any other type of import tax.

Wow, apparently so. I didn't realize the exchange rate had jumped back up to where it is.

Although after further research of equally equipped models I didn't see that big of a savings. I looked at AWD models that were $50K in Sarnia and $40K in the Detroit area, so basically the same when factoring in sales tax.

And after even FURTHER research, I'm not sure you were comparing two equally equipped models. I just went through the same exercise with the Equinox LT and the ones in Sarnia that were low 30's were mid-20's in the US for the equally equipped vehicle.

Which makes sense. Yeah, it's two different countries but basically still the same geographical market.
