Is it possible that the Pistons will trade for Harden?

I know, I know...it’s not the most plausible solution to the Harden mess, but hear me out.
Harden’s behavior is not easy to manage, that’s probably why teams like Miami, Nets, Bucks etc aren’t really trying to close a deal with the Rockets.
Since the Pistons are rebuilding, why not trying to send a package centered around Griffin to Houston with something to sweeten the package for Harden? The Pistons will finally have a real superstar who fills a position of need like the guard spot, while freeing up space for Grant to play at PF, with Sekou or Bey at the 3.

Do you guys think that Houston could get desperate enough to do this?

I think that if Houston doesn’t hung up immediately, it will be a great move for us and the team will still be bad enough for a top pick in the next draft.

No. All sorts of no.

He'd be even more malcontent here than in Houston. Also, he's 31 years old. He would just be wasting the rest of his prime here.

Yup, but we are not talking about a sign and trade where what the player thinks about the team is traded to could change the fact that when his former team decides that the trade is going to happen it will happen in the end.
My reasoning behind this is for the Pistons to make a move that will allow them to move forward with the plan that Weaver seams to have in mind (I’m talking about his free agency signings and the opportunity of a top pick in the next draft).
If he will be more unhappy in Detroit than in Houston, who cares? The team has to suck at least for this upcoming season to try and get talent trough the draft, while at the same time give a chance to the new signings to be in the best position on the floor.

Why is there a thread like this on every single board of RealGM when there is no chance in hell Harden wants to play anywhere except the teams he has named?

The Sixers have offered Simmons + for him. Not that he even wants to come but say Weaver insisted you realize it would be a complete future gutting offer. Like Sekou/Hayes/draft picks/Blake( to match salary). Then we would have Harden and still not be a contender because our lineup sucks so bad,

We shouldn't be giving up any assets for a player that would just be unhappy here for 2 years and then leave via FA.... likely never even playing hard or being a good leader for the team. Would be an all out train wreck.

We don't have a anywhere near a haul enough to get Harden. Philly objectively is better with Simmons plus whatever long term picks and filler

Not to mention, we'd look like morons for giving up a Jrue Holidayesque kings ransom like the Bucks did if we go the route when we wouldn't have a buildable roster after it.

Sure if we could get him for just Blake, but we can't. Like others have said, it would require gutting our current young talent and future picks. That obviously is not going to happen.

The better question is "Why?"

We have a better chance at trading blake for wood.

Have some other player grow a beard. We don't need Harden's.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm not saying that this trade WILL happen or can happen, but if the Rockets become desparate enough, I'll personally do it for all the motives mentioned above: somebody (a superstar!) who can fill out a position of need in our roster, solve the logjam at PF between Grant, Blake and, if considered one, Sekou. Ideally, if you can swap Blake and Wright for Harden (I'm not saying that they will accept such an offer) you can have this starting 5:

PM: Hayes
G: Harden
SF: Bey/Sekou
PF: Grant
C: Plumbee

I believe that even with Harden on the roster we will still suck hard, so Harden basically becomes our new tank commander and we will be able to finally give meaning to the Grant singing while still developing our young core.

In the end: for me, roster wise, it will be better to have a superstar at the G spot where we don't have anybody at the moment, instead of having Blake at PF and have to play Grant at SF, while Sekou seats on the bench.

They probably wouldn't even talk to us on the phone without Hayes and Sekou going out.

Blake and Wright for Harden is beyond laughable. It's not even positive value. I mean, the premise of bringing him here as a tank commander makes zero sense. The Rockets would require we gut our assets and he makes us a temporarily better team, not worse.

1) We do not have the assets. Blake has negative value; that is the opposite of what you need to trade for a player with value.

2) Harden would tank any attempt. We are not in a position to contend.

3) Does not fit our direction/timeframe for winning.

I'm trying *really* hard to be constructive and at least respond to the OP, but this is beyond terrible. For everybody.

There is no point in trading for a star you know wouldnt want to be here. If players develop in a couple years and pistons look on the rise, then you can think of making that type of move
