How far will the Pistons get with Weaver?
So, we’re a few months into the Troy Weaver regime. How’s this gonna play out????

Re: How far will the Pistons get with Weaver?
Depends on a bunch of things that are out of Weaver's control.
If Pistons play Wright/Blake/Plumlee lineups for 35 minutes each night and the Pistons are unwatchable bad, but get Cade and he is a superstar, does that mean Weaver is a good GM or did anything?

I have absolutely no faith in Weaver.
But we’re so bad now, that he might luck out on being in the position to be high enough to draft some good players.

Over time I expect he could get us to the ECF. beyond that will depend on the other teams in the conference - if another super team is assembled, etc.

We need to draft a top 15 to 20 player later this year to have a chance to be more than a 2nd round playoff team.

Re: How far will the Pistons get with Weaver?
Well Weaver said with his own mouth that he greatly values centers and places huge emphasis on rebounding, both of which are certainly right in line with how to build successful teams in this age of the NBA.
So if Blake opts out this summer, that will open up enough cap space for Weaver to throw $20+ mil/season to bring back Drummond, and the Pistons will be headed to the promised land.

Weaver is worse than SVG

It means that he and Casey stumbled into a top pick. I won't credit him with much.
His free-agent signings were baffling and his draft was questionable.

As always, a thread filled with hope, and promise. Makes me want to remain a fan of the team.

The only chance weaver has to do anything really noteworthy here is to draft a star.

Reggie Jackson will be a FA next season as well, they have great chemistry together. If you add Grant Josh Jackson and Bey, the team is ready, now I understand the master plan.

SVG trading for Blake is worse than any signing/trade Weaver has done imo.

Re: How far will the Pistons get with Weaver?
Agree to disagree.
Trading for Blake was bad.
But trading away Wood, Kennard, and Brown for nothing while stretch-waiving two guys just to get enough under that cap to spend the rest of said cap space on Plumlee all in one off-season is worse, IMO

"Weaver" will take this team as far as the 2021, 2022, 2020 draft picks & Grant take us.

Re: How far will the Pistons get with Weaver?
I believe Weaver will build a contender. Everyone is jumping the gun, we are drafting Cade Cunningham. We are going to have a great back court of him and Hayes. Bey will start at SF, Grant at PF. We will draft a good point guard prospect the next year to come off the bench. Lastly we will throw money at either Bagley or Bamba when they hit restricted free agency, which ever one shows more promise and makes that team think about holding on to them.
Hayes/ Draft pick/Lee
Cunningham/ Jackson/ Svi
Bey/Sekou/Jackson
Grant/Sekou
Bagley or Bamba/ Stewart
This is what I expect this team to look like under Weaver in 2 years, young talented and competitive.

I like that plan. I think Cade could play the 3.
But I like the idea of getting a starting center off free agency. There's quite a few options.
You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

Knowing Weavers Center obsession hes probably targeting Mobley in the draft

Re: How far will the Pistons get with Weaver?
The Lopez brothers, Bobby Portis, Aaron Baynes from last year, all shoot the 3 and were relatively cheap. They all play better defense than Plumlee.
Centers are so cheap and abundant is crazy Pistons paid Plumlee so much. Especially ones that arent rim protectors, can't shoot, don't rebound well, aren't fast enough to play defense and get out to the 3 point line. Plumlee has a couple strong talents, but they dont make up for his big problems.
Anyways, hard pass on Mobley, or trade down a few spots if possible. If we get 3 and it goes Cade then Suggs. If the team at 4-5 wants Mobley, trade down and get a 2nd round pick. Take another player and let Mobley go.

Dedmon hit 133 threes from ‘17-‘19 at 37 percent. He might have been busy celebrating his contract last season, but I’m just sayin’......
