Get Weaver more 1st Round Picks!

Post#1 » by GreekAlex » Wed Apr 21, 2021 7:14 pm

With the success of his first draft class, I think it would be great to double down and get at least 1 extra first round pick in the next draft without trading down.

Are there any logical paths to acquiring another 1st?

I love the way the young players are being developed and it would help things along that much quicker if the team was able to find another hidden gem.

Could the 2 early seconds and Sekou get us the Portland 1st from Houston? Houston will have 3 firsts.

I’m just looking to brainstorm options.

Weavers draft last year was absurd, and repeating that is going to be extremely difficult. With that said, I'd be willing to bet you could get a 1st out of a team with a combination of players and 2nds. I would love for Weaver to have 3 picks again this draft. Plumlee, Sekou, and whomever should be able to land him at least 1 more pick.

Hopefully that’s the plan. Seeing how the younger group has played when flying on their own, I hope Weaver sees Plumlee as expendable.

Stewart was developed way quicker than I expected and has a much higher ceiling than I anticipated.

Corey Joseph's contract is $12.6 million ($2.5 million if he is cut I think) plus Plumlee's $8 million.

Thats $20 million. Plus open cap space.

Are there any guys making $25 million for the next couple of years that play for a contender that needs a backup center and want to dump the big contract?

Those are the kind of things that could get back a decent pick.

Wiggins makes $30 million. Porzingis makes $31 million.

Does taking on Wiggins get a good 1st round pick - trading CoJo, Plumlee, Josh Jackson and a 2nd round pick or two get you the 4th pick if MIN loses it to GSW?

Wiggins isn’t nearly negative enough to burn a 4th overall pick.

Yeah but CoJo's contract will reduce their overall spending by $30 million because I believe GSW is in the super triple repeater territory.

Their owner is a billionaire so maybe he doesnt care.

I think the above idea is still sound - Cojo + Plumlee is $20 million. Josh Jackson is another another $5 million expiring.

100% and I’m sure Weaver is thinking the same.

GSW are in a lot of financial pain now and they could be a good candidate. 4th might be too steep.

The Pelicans with Bledsoe might be a consideration, along with Stephan Adam’s - his contract runs 2 more years however. I might argue that Plumlee fits better next to Zion.

I hope he’s not thinking this. Taking on salary that extends into our salary cap space in 2022 for a draft pick and crap players is a huge mistake. 2022 is our opportunity to make a big splash by trading for a good player or signing a few in free agency. We could have Grant, Bey, Killian,Stewart, 2021 draft pick and nearly 70 million in cap space in 2022.

GS is also in a win now window with steph, Clay and draymond. I could see them wanting a plumlee and grant package where we take back Wiggins and we get some level of draft compensation for that move.

Didn’t mean to imply he would or should consider a 2 year contract like Adams...but he certainly should for one that expires next season.

Bledsoe does have a buyout for 2022, $3.9m.

Yessssss. I like Grant, but if we can scoop that Minny pick we got to do that.

Dunno if that Minny pick is a reasonable goal from GSW or not, but I'm certain their own pick is available if they get the Minny one. They definitely need win now pieces in general, real help at center (Wiseman is currently an uber bum), and an upgrade at wing over Wiggins or especially Oubre.

We have the right pieces to offer in Plumlee and Grant. Something could definitely happen there.

If I’m the Warriors I want a better player for the Minny pick.

I agree in theory but hopefully the blunder of drafting Wiseman has them a little gun shy and ready to acquire a veteran with a know skill set on a reasonable contract like Grant.

Yeah no way they do it now. I thought maybe earlier in the season when Grant was on fire we had a SMALL chance of getting it. With him coming back to earth looking like the same player he was in Denver just taking more shots on a bad team no way they do it. If their going to move that pick they will hold it for a Beal level player. Decent chance that pick isnt conveyed till next season and it will be unprotected at that point so it will be one of the best trade assets available.
