What outside the box ideas can Detroit do, besides drafting Cade Cunningham, to match the Atlanta Hawks rise up in one year?
...

I recall hearing Weaver wanted Jarret Allen the center from the cavs, formerly from the nets. He would be a good fit in Detroit. A RFA this year that would require a sign and trade. That is if the cavs don't take jalen green and get Mobley instead.

Spencer Dinwiddle's name came up, but I think if we get Cade, that probably wouldn't be an option unless he came somewhat cheap.

I wouldn't want to count on any other rookies from the draft. Possible, but not probable. Dreams of Garza in the second round steal, but also could be a bust on defense.

I think our guards will be just fine this upcoming year with frank and HD off the bench. I still think sf/pf/center are positions of need. Center being the biggest need as beef stew can do PF.

I think it's quite possible that Detroit could make the playoffs and maybe pull a new york knicks rise.

What other realistic add ons through signing or sign and trade or trades might fill the needs in the front court?

No need to rush.

The Hawks made their jump in Trae’s third year.

The right free agents aren’t there this year IMO, and I don’t know if we currently have assets to make a big trade. This year I’d say rely on Cade and internal growth. Other moves can be made down the road.

The Hawks seized opportunities as they came (Capela, Bogdan). We can attempt the same in the coming years.

You’re a season early. This is the year to take advantage of teams looking to open up cap space.

We basically got Wright and Lee for free. More of that should be done, free agency should almost be completely internal signings.

Yeap, patience. We got too many young players to develop, let's see who's a good fit with Cade, who has to go and then which pieces we can get to fit next to Cade. That won't happen this year.

we need to chill this season and just see what we have from internal development+ who fits with Cade/how does Cade play.
That will dictate our direction for the offseason next year where we will have max cap space

Sign Serge Ibaka to a 2 year deal draft cade and some guys in the 2nd. Ibaka backs up PF and some Center(3rd center) he would bring leadership along with Plumlee to the team. He has ties with both coach and GM and he could start occasionally if we need to rest Grant or Stewart or Plumlee

1 more year at least before we make noise. Ideal situation is to show some good signs next year but miss the playoffs. Hope for some more lotto ball luck next year and hope Weaver can work some magic with all of that free agent money. So it's important to limit this year's spending to short-term deals.

As a reminder so that there is some context here;

Killian Hayes 19
Isaiah Stewart 20
Sekou Doumbouya 20
Saddiq Bey 22
Diallo 22
Jackson 24
Grant 27

Cade is 19.

There is all the time in the world to see how things shake out with the current roster for at least a year before making any major moves. I expect nothing from next year except to enjoy watching the kids play. If they start really kicking ass, ill enjoy it even more.

Ibaka barely played all year and just had back surgery. What do we want him for?

This.

It’s time to enjoy this year. Sit back and watch some basketball and see what we got. We have young players at every position, let’s not move on from all of them and lose any trade value they have.

2022 is going to be bananas. I imagine a lot of discussions then.

I'm also in the patience camp. Unless Weaver gets extremely creative, I feel like the Pistons will be more in line with what we saw from the Hornets at best and fighting for a play-in game. And even then I feel like a lot of things would have to go right.

Vet presence/knows Casey's offense/would be a solid presence off the bench/etc/etc

I don’t mind ibaka as long as he’s willing to be mire a locker room presence

Originally I thought the best path was make some trades and fill out or roster, but in retrospect the best thing is sign F. Jackson, Diallo to one year deals. Give Danny Green some money to come in and be our flex starting SG/backup SF and give Bey some good competition and save our money to attract another star or semi star player. The Bradley Beal's and Zach Lavine's of the world. Then bring back Jackson and Diallo for the bench and you have yourself an Easter Conference Finals team.

Hayes / F. Jackson
Zach Lavine / Diallo
Cade /Bey
Grant / Sekou
Plumlee / Stewart

And if that does work out grant and Plumlee money comes off the year after that.
