Godfather Offer from Houston? Do you take it?

Houston is on the line offering this package do you take it?

To Rockets: #1, Plumlee, Josh Jackson, Sekou, Sirvydis
Houston gets the hometown (Alrington) product in Cade, a true #1 pick to build a franchise around - they dump Wood's big deal for expiring contracts - their cheap ass owner loves to see it.

To Pistons: #2, Kevin Porter Jr, Christian Wood
Detroit takes Jalen Green with the #2 pick and also gets its starting SG (KPJ) and starting C (Wood).

Our line up, assuming we re-sign Saben Lee and Frank Jackson to cheap deals:

Killian / Lee
KPJ / Frank Jackson
Green / Bey
Grant / ----- (Montrez Harrell in FA)
Wood / Stewart - Okafor

That's 10 roster spots filled, our three 2nd round picks pushes the roster count to 13

We then use the remainder of our cap space to go after a PF who would be willing to take a short bloated deal in order to prove himself after a poor performance last season - Montrez Harrell.

Trez is a hard worker and grinder, fits the Pistons mold perfectly. Would bring some toughness to our second unit and would look nice next to Stewart. He can build his stock back up lighting up bench players like he used to on the Clippers.

I dont know if Houston even considers this deal but it saves them money and gives them the consensus #1 overall pick, Wood would probably be the issue but id even consider throwing them one of our 2nds this year to make the deal happen.

This is the only trade down offer I'd consider - i dont want to trade with OKC because even though Shai is much better than Kevin Porter Jr, getting the #2 and Wood is far better than #6 and a war chest of unknown draft picks.

Stop this Wood nonsense, he's empty stats.

I dont think either team would do this deal. We literally just let Wood go, Weaver didnt seem particularly a big fan of his, Kevin Porter Jr was available to all 30 teams last season for free and we didnt seem interested.
This is very very far from a 'Godfather' offer

For me to consider this, you would have to Swap KPJ and Sekou for our FRP back, the 24th pick and swap right to two of Houston's FRP in 2023 and 2025 or 2022 and 2024. You essentially giving up the first for a Plumlee and Wood swap. That's not enough.

When you said godfather offer I expected multiple first rounders with future ones unprotected. This package sucks lol.

Include both of their first round picks this year and their 1st next year unprotected and our 1st back and you got a deal.

I definitely feel I can refuse this one- so it's not a Godfather offer.

Unless you're implying that the Rockets will be sending some guys over to my house if I say no.

Generally speaking, setting aside my own personal views on the value of the trade, I think any notion of Wood headed back to Detroit is DOA. He probably resents the team for not really trying to retain him, and regardless of what fans think of his value, it's clear Weaver didn't consider him a major asset- if he did he'd have outbid Houston in the first place.

Side note in passing: Arlington (where Cade is from) is absolutely nowhere near Houston. Texas is an enormous state and Arlington is a Dallas/Ft Werth Suburb. They're like 4 hours away- definitely not a hometown product to Houston.

Houston can add picks

Wood can be re-routed

This gets us the #2 and KPJ which is better than our other alternative #6 and SGA

porter and his attitude probably doesn't fit in detroit, not to mention that he would play sg just like Jalen Green. wood, not sure he fits here anymore and too much like Mobley. Not a godfather deal in anyway. to make it work you'd have to have detroit get the same things houston is giving and delete the first pick from detroit. Maybe take out plumblee and wood and add in hayes. ... but really no, no no.

Bingo.

This isn't even a Fredo Corleone offer.

Weaver didn't want Wood on this team he didn't fit the culture shift.

IF, and its a big IF, Weaver feels like two players are really close in consideration for the #1 pick and there isn't much separation between those two, then you consider an offer like this.
#1 + #42 + #52 for #2 + #23, #24, and our future first rounder back.

This deal makes sense ONLY IF Cade gives indication he doesn't want to come to Detroit, or if Weaver has two guys at the top of the draft really close in ranking and would be happy with either player.

We would end up in this draft with #2, #23, #24, #37 and we don't have to worry about giving Houston a future first.

Yeah. Christian Wood fans are probably the only ones who think this is even remotely close to fair value for the #1 in this draft.

Yeah, that's not enough either. Two pick upgrades into the late first and a first that we certainly hope isn't that valuable? No.

I wouldn't make that trade right now... I said only IF Weaver thinks Mobley or Green are equal to Cade and he is undecided who to take. Then you look at options to move down to number two. If he feels the top two prospects are equal it doesn't make sense to stay at #1.

#2, #23, 1 unprotected first rounder of our choice within the next 3 years

See they could trade for the #3 pick using wood and then some and offer us 2/3/our pick back and more and I'm still gonna say no

I believe cade is a game changer for us and him being our franchise player with Hayes Bey Stewart grant and in 2022 cap room to me seems like one of the better young teams in the league. You add a couple vets and maybe a all star that wants to play with cade and grant and this team can make some noise especially in the east

If we believe Cade is a clear number one - and almost everyone at RealGM thought so until we got #1 - this isn't enough value, IMO.

Wood could be rerouted to a third team. We may not want him back. but his value seems pretty high on the T&T forum.

But still a no for me.

Just take Cade, Wood and KPJ aren't even locked up to where we could even consider them building blocks.

If you're trading out of the #1 overall pick, future firsts have to be part of the return.
