Wow. What a great pick. Love this pick especially after loving Plumlee. I’m probably the driver of the Garza bandwagon now.

like a slower, smaller worse version of Boban

This guy is not in the Weaver mold at all. I see this as a throwaway pick. Hope I’m wrong.

It could work. Dude can legit shoot the basketball. He’s not good at defense, but his shot-blocking numbers are not that bad.

G-League lifer who will be able to survive down there because opposition big won't be able to stretch the floor and shoot like NBA centers can.

Steal of the draft imo, this dude is a great scorer and shooter even if he can't defend .

Former Iowa center and national player of the year Luka Garza has been putting in some major work ahead of the 2021 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-11 versatile big man was the nation's most dominant player over his final two years of his college career, but that hasn't stopped critics from picking apart his game and debating if his game will translate to the NBA.

On Saturday afternoon, Garza posted a photo to Instagram, which shows the type of transformation and rigorous training that he's done ahead of the NBA combine. According to his father, Frank, Luka has lost 22 pounds and is in the best shape of his life. Below is an embedded picture from Luka's Instagram.

Comments to rationalize bad contracts -
1) It's less than the MLE
2) He can be traded later
3) It's only __% of the cap
4) The cap is going up
5) It's only __ years
6) He's a good mentor/locker room guy

It’s stuff like this why I don’t get why people are mad at a 52nd pick. I thought he was down 30, but whatever. One of his primary problems was being a 260-270 lb big.

I’m not saying he’s going to be some amazing rookie, but this is a worthwhile risk for that late. I don’t know much about 57, who I’m going to call balsawood, but what little I read it’s a ok risk for a g league development guy.

Modern day Pat Garrity. Still love the pick/upside of the pick.

At pick 52, a draft slot that pretty much means you aren't making a difference on an NBA team, this is a great pick up and an easy A for me. It's a good gamble by Weaver to see if they can bring in Garza and make him an NBA talent.

Remember, Jokic is the lowest ever drafted MVP at pick 41--second rounders picked 40+ don't amount to much. I don't bring this up to say Garza is the second coming of Jokic, because he isn't. I'm just emphasizing again when you're picked 52 there isn't a high expectation you'll be doing anything in the NBA. Thus my hot take is this is worth the gamble and an 'A' grade.

It would seem that we have some folks who do not know what Garza can do, and have barely watched any of his games/highlights. I only know extensively about him because months ago, I was watching tons of tape on all the prospects and I clicked a video of his by accident, watched it and was amazed at his talent.

Make no mistake, 10 years ago, this kid goes in the lottery.

1.)Excellent shooter mid and from deep
2.)Excellent rebounder
3.)good shot blocker
4.)damn good low block player

He is also a passionate player and his attitude, his game, everything about him gives me strong Bill Laimbeer vibes.

Does he have slow feet, and can be a liability on defense? Absolutely, but he could have a huge upside here, and him losing weight is a big deal as his extra poundage is what really limited his mobility.

Make no mistake here, he is going to be a deadly weapon on the pick and roll in the NBA. He is a legitimate Center, and you have to respect his 3 point shot(44% last season 3.2attempts)so with Hayes and Cade on the pick and roll/pick and pop, Garza fits that mold perfectly.

I give the pick a B+. Garza is a great scoring big man and can shoot 44% from 3. Weaver is definitely choosing a direction for this team with his top 3 picks last night. All of them are good teammates/leaders, can stretch the floor (over 40% 3pt%), are unselfish players who play within the team and even if they are not athletic, they can handle contact well on both ends of the floor. I'm not sure anyone can dislike this pick unless they've never seen Garza play or expect a lottery talent in the last ten picks of the draft.
